I'm thinking to buy a PAM 288k, but seems to be too shiny for me, as I am afraid of scratches... Any bad experience with scratches on the shiny parts of the 288k?

No problems with my 288 , .... Though I don't mind some minor wear & tear, it adds character ;)

just buy a cape cod cloth and when ever the scratches seem too much for your liking give it a good buff with the cloth and it'll look brand new again.

As scratchable as any other SS watch. +1 on the Cape Cod. Just ordered myself another one today. That little thing is magical!

Actually mine seems to be pretty good. Much less scratched than other highly polished watches (gen or rep). But i think this has more to do with the design than the quality of steel - leather strap and lug wires. Most of the scratching I get on watches from regular wear is on the clasp on lug sides.

A far as the Cape Cod cloths go, are any different than a number of other metal polishing cloths available? Are they specifically for stainless, or can they be used on precious metals as well.

I've been using Cape Cod cloths for a while now, works great on Ss, Sterling Silver, and 18k gold. Well worth the few pounds that they cost, for the results you get with them.
