PAM 249--lugs with a springbar?

Guys:

I bought a Pam 249 California dial from a fellow board member who said it came from Andrew at Trusty time.

Does anyone know if Andrew's 249 cali dial has springbars between the wire lugs instead of solid wire lugs for the straps? Just seemed odd--why bother with the riveted straps even if for show?

Well after I find out if it is one of Andrew's :) I'd be interested in ideas for straps--even making my own.

I actually think the fact that it has springbars is really kind of cool. I put one of Elliots straps, 24/24 with sewn buckle (is a small on me to begin with) on it to see if the 47mm case and wider lugs would make the strap work for me--it did not as the lugs are sort of straight out an do not curve or confrom to wrist.

To make a regular panerai strap work you need to actually get one longer than normal for this watch (its hard enough just getting them xl to begin with for me!)

Curious as to thoughts on my watches origin and using these straps. Do all of thes ehave springbars in the middle of the lug? I think mine is a lot like an unengraved version of the Kampfswimmer watches you see on Ebay

Thanks,

CISO

I'll try to take photos ASAP. I used a 24mm strap since it doesn't look bad at all on the 26mm lugs and easier to move the spring bar and push it down and snap into place. I'm not sure how easy it will be to undo it--but shouldn't be too bad--I mean that's why they are probably there.

Enzo--the wire lug on each side for the watch band has a section cut out of the middle so there are two bends ---the ends of these bends have holes -- a spring bar has been snapped into the middlel to complete the wire loop and form a "bale" for the strap. The wire lugs go straight into my case, they do not screw out like on my Radiomir style watch --as I believe it replicates a fixed bale wire loop style lug. The only reason I can see someone putting in spring bars is to make it easy to take a standard style strap on and off.

Sorry if my terminology is a mixture of militaria collecting terms and made up ones on my own. Somewhat new to all this :)

OK I just had to take a photo of this to better illustrate (also forced me to sign up for photobucket and undo the strap! :) )

WOw - that is odd - but kinna cool.

eNzO - look at that - I like this idea - it could solve some strap issues.

yes there are holes or cups and the tension is decent on the spring bar.

Here is the Moljot movement 249 that Trusty now carries in addition to Asian. It is a dead ringer for mine (also the movement is real plain and ugly like the one he shows in the one with display back with Asian Movement--the movement is no where near as nice as the one in your photo):

Notice "fixed" bale --no screws. When I bought the watch, Trusty only had the display back style.

I just wonder why no one else has discovered this springbar bale before?

Hmm, it looks like rep makers went this time for the "authentic" vintage soldered-wire look, at the expense of the easy strap mount/removal.

I guess it will work fine for those rivet-screw straps, but I could imagine all kind of problems trying to put and remove the standard 26mm Radiomir type strap...it shouldn't be that hard with 24mm, but than you'd end up with too much 'wire' sticking on both sides of the straps at lugs.
