Hello-

I just recently bought a PAM 177 from timeshops and in a week or so it stopped working. I have an email to them about it. Has anyone had experience with this on any REP especially the 177? And how is the service by timeshops in terms of returns or exchanges? How does it work?

Its a shame, the watch is beautiful but now the watch is not winding and doesn't run any more......

Thanks in advance for all your help / input.

What's that? And do local watchsmiths question the validity of the watch (i.e. rep vs. gen). And anyone know of any good ones in southern california?

Just send it to any of our watch smiths (I know Katt is in the US). It is definitely not worth sending a watch all the way to china for that issue. Get Katt to service it for you and it will last you as long as a swiss one

Check out Katt. He's a watchsmith on RWI.

I've used him and he's a top notch guy!

The local watch smith will be able to tell wether it's a rep or a gen as soon as they open it up so tell them it's a rep first!. Speak to the watchsmith, some don't like working on reps because they are illegal, others just don't want to touch an Asian Movement and then the rest don't care.
Best thing to do is speak to watchsmith first and ask if they mind working on your rep, no harm in asking.

Most independent watch smiths are more concerned about gaining your business and your money than they are in "busting" you for a rep watch. They have absolutely no connection to the ADs or the manufacturer, and there is no incentive for them to "turn you in".

My guess is that it might be a keyless works issue, happened to me with a Pam 111h rep, there is a small silver screw called the 'crown set screw' , if you can unscrew the caseback all you need to do is tighten the screw. Thats the first area I would look into, if it is then it is a really easy fix.

Yes, I'm sure Timeshops will fix it, but do you really want to mess with the hassle of sending it back to China, waiting for repair and then waiting to be reshipped back to you? Especially for something that's likely a $25 fix...

I'd get it checked out locally, but that's just me.

Katt has his own section in our "Watchmakers and Horologists" forum:

Hi Guys,

The popular belief is that independents will be happy to take your business but I can tell you (from experience) this is not the case. I've got 2 dead DSN's at the moment and cant find a watch-smith to service or repair them in the UK.

As soon as I say they are Reps they get all silly and say they refuse to work on them because they don't trust the build of the movements. I tell them they are 'swiss ETA's' (these are old school DSN from 2007)...but they wont budge.

I say find someone on the forum and stick with them.... and in saying that, anyone in the UK who's willing to work on my pieces please let me know..

I've got a Rolex PN Daytona dial replacing a homage Alpha Dial (or something like that). I'm in the UK but it's gone to Domi in Germany. Have found a UK Trader that repairs Reps. Have a faulty A21J being repaired, but he can't take new orders for at least 6 months. I have to respect his wishes, but in 6 months, I will ask him if he wishes to take new jobs on from the Forum. Domi is a great guy to send your watches to anyway. No problems with German Customs if it is within the EU. And believe it or not Britain is the EU.

I'm sure Mark at TS would take care of it for you as he just repaired a sub that I had purchased back in December. But it will take a minimum of 4-6 weeks and $20 to ship to him and $20 return using EMS (he does offer free Airmail return with 3-4 weeks). So if you can check it out yourself or locally, try that.

its most likely a very small reason why the watch stopped working.
a lose screw, stem lose ( keyless works jammed, etc )
this movement is very easy to service and usually bullett- proof.

send it to Katt, have him clean and lube it correctly, adjust it, and you will enjoy it
for years to come.

trust me
