The visual quality of rep to gen movement is horrible. The finish on the geartrain, bevel and polish on winding gears, finish on balance wheel... all far superior on the genuine swiss counterpart. I can't prove it because I've yet to test, but its also safe to assume that the reliability of the swiss parts are better as well.

Isn't a PAM177 a super rep? I believe it would be unreasonable to expect for the movement finish of the rep to match the gen, no?

Super rep does not mean a 1:1. IMO even most of the super reps are not 80% close. There are always small details for us to nitpick, no matter how 'super' the rep is. Take the 111 for example; it can easily pass of as a gen on the wrist but once you have a gen beside it the Noob is immediately called out if you know whr to look at. For instance, in most Pams even though super reps; their dials have easy tells too like wrong inscription and lume color, sausage lume etc. Even the cases from three factories have their own flaws. Hfac with good shape but tall bezel and wrong finishing. Noob with good shape but usual imperfections on the lugs' finishing (even on their latest v4 cases). Movement wise? Lol to be honest it doesnt even take a trained eye to spot a rep 6497-2, provided you have a gen beside it. So if you are trying to pass a rep as a gen, don't. Who knows, someone next door might be a member here and probably call you out in the public lol.

Fine. I don't want to disagree with clearly more experienced users. Under close inspection any rep movement is of course very far from a gen.

However, considering that this was the first post of the OP, saying that a PAM177 has a horrible movement might send him on an impossible quest to find something "perfect".

Of course, this is possible to find... in Officine Panerai...

You are correct and wrong at the same time. Using a word lke horrible is a bit harsh and might scare off someone new to reps. But it is also very accurate, technically speaking, and by the standards that alot of us judge by... the Asian movement is very inaccurate. Typically super reps are closed CB for that exact reason.

A 6497-2 can be modded to look quite similar to gen, but it does cost quite a pretty penny.
