This is another PAM I recently acquired from Time4Direct.

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/panerai-models-avaialble-99-55194

I think it is beautiful and a great value. Perfect for someone like me just learning about PAMs.

What do you think?

Buy the way, I changed straps on some of these PAM watches I photographed so the straps won't all match with Time4Direct website photos.

honestly donald, I think your photo skills are getting better n better.
apart from that, I belive that your fiddy is short one flaw my dsn fiddy has! and the dsn is 460$ so that's not to shabby, huh? ofcourse the dsn has it's advantages, but for the money, I think it looks good!

Beautiful watch and Amazing pictures.

If a watch like this is considered as base, what basic mod's would be required to make it as close to gen. Would it be necessary to change the casing too?

slyshooter: Sorry, I cannot help you with mods. I don't even know if this rep has any flaws compared to the gen. All I know is that it is quite beautiful and I don't see any reason to change a thing (except to pick a strap you like and change that as you desire to alter the look month to month). Perhaps some PAM experts on RWI can help you with what mods could, or should, be made to this watch.

I value beauty, as you can see from my photographs, more than accuracy to gen.

Nice solid fiddy and for the few bucks you cant go wrong. A strap of Ach's or another trusted strap maker would make it even cooler. As you correctly stated the rep straps are always a bit glossy n poor ;)

Old Domed Crystal vs. New Flat Crystal

When I first viewed these 127s with their old style domed crystal and compared them to the new flat crystal on a PAM 90, for example, I disliked the old dome style and wondered why anyone would buy and wear one.
But as I wore one I noticed something the dome crystal had which the flat crystal did not have: great light refection in interesting circular patterns. The flat crystal will reflect light without giving that refection interesting shapes.
In other words, the dome reflects light as many curved shapes while the flat reflects light in only one flat plane.
Try it with light coming in a window. The flat crystal will reflect straight lines while the curved crystal will take that same light and twist it with the curves in the crystal.

So I came to love the old style curved crystal because it created beautiful refections which the flat crystal could not do.

Who would have thought that a reflective domed crystal adds beauty to a watch when so much is written about making the crystal anti-reflective?

Study this example of how reflecting light in a curved pattern adds beauty to the watch.

See how that curved dome actually adds beauty and interest to the otherwise bland black dial?

Flat crystal PAMs don't reflect light like that.

Try it yourself with your flat crystal PAM.

If you like PAMs perhaps you should have one with a domed crystal.

I am glad I ordered one even when I thought I wouldn't like it!

Excellent pictures. I myself ordered one, so I can't wait to receive it (waiting drives me nuts). How is the lume btw? Also, I will probably only get a strap for it and see how I like the size, etc. For me this will be a great watch as a beater when I'' out and about with the fam!

Cheers and enjoy it as I know I will mine!

Isn't DSNs crystal supposed to be much better? I've been considering buying David's ultimate Fiddy, but this one for $99 sure looks a treat. Again..... we need some experts to chime in with comparisons between DSNs and the cheapies.

There will be a LOT of differences in DSN's Fiddy and this one. This is a GREAT starter Pam, but the true Paneristas would be going nuts wanting to mod this one. The cannon pin is too low, the CG lever doesn't sit flush, the crystal is too thin, the movement has stickers instead of engraving, and the list goes on.
BUT - I have a starter Fiddy similar to this one and it is truly an impressive and very likeable watch. The domed crystal gives it so much character.
For the price, this is a great watch.

And awesome pics as always, Donald. You know I'm a big fan of your work!

I bought one of those cheap mini-Fiddys last year (I think it is 44mm) and like it a whole lot--despite it being non-existent in the real world. Cost about the same thing, if I recall.
