ok, all PAM gurus, pls bear with me.

I read and re-read thru as much info from the "bible" guide, plus several 50+ pages of reviews on this great rep piece.

However, now I am completely info overload.

I was all set of getting the PAM 217 from KW, but now having second thought as I am not sure if I should opt for the ZF version.

Can the experts sway or point me in the right direction, or decision?

Greatly appreciated.

Kingcrab,

According to ALE's PAM guide, PAM 127 from KW factory is considered a super replica. In my opinion, is a good option.

KW -- for PAM's, 90% of the time, KW is the way to go.

Is there a consensus on the 217 though, anybody?
I agree the kw 127 is the better watch

Not sure if there's a consensus (which I find to be a rarity), but I've had the DSN, Noob and KW -- sold the other two and the KW has remained in the rotation. Here is mine with a Vac relume on Strap Culture gator:

Major pluses for me on the KW: correct millesimation, correct orientation of movement, correct millimetric screw on the swan neck, better (more correct) distortion on the crystal and better dial printing.

It's easy KW is the way to go ...
if you prefer a "destro" KW217.
if standard lefty wanted KW127, wich has a nice decorated movement the 217 does not have.
Then get a gen strap and you are in :)

thank you all for the replies. So the kw 217 is not 100% identical in movement compare to 127?

No, correct, as per gen.
PAM127 has a more "elaborated/decotared" movement, with the word PANERAI repeated/engraved all along the movement.
PAM217 doesn´t have those PANARAI PANERAI PANERAI engravings on the movement.
You may check at panerai web site.

I like my zf.... I like the extra distortion. And if you hunt around for some gen videos, you'll find examples with very similar distortion. Also, the KW lume appears to be greenish even without a charge. But I am in the minority...

+1

colors generally are the KW's weak point. Someone must be color blind there.

hi, that is the one I read and got all info over loaded..and confused. I was about to get the KW 217 until i read that 50 pages article.

Now is "decorated" mvt in 127 more of a beauty thing? or does it serve some functionality? I

Thank you all

The pourpose of chinese reps decorated movements, are to resemble the original GEN movements as much as possible.

At the same time GEN movements have "decorated", engraved or modified bridges , apart from functionallity (in some cases), to make it harder to replicate and give the feeeling of a nice finished product. Although sometimes those movements , at gen "low entry level" are not "pure manufactures" at all, but just modified/decorated basic generic swiss movements.

With closed case back watches, all the above is not so important.
