Guys,
I am debating if I should do this: I have an old 113 from Ruby and want to change the dial and caseback to DSN 03a. As I think the closed casebacks better for rep Pam's. Should I do it or just leave it as is?
Thanks
Honestly? I'd leave it. Ruby's 113 dial is better than DSN's current 003 dial. The numbers on DSN's 003 dial are WAY too thin.
Here's my gen 114:
Here's DSN's 003A:
See how skinny the numbers are?
If you want a closed case back, get DSN's 010D case back or a 001B case back from Angus and keep your current L dial. The case backs wouldn't be exactly right for a 003 B/C/D, but it would be more accurate overall than using the 003A dial, IMO.
I think you can get a OP 6518 caseback from DSN now.... not as good as the old school one (due to weight/construction) but it would be accurately marked....
With the black printing on the white dial, you will not be successful IMHO in switching it... white printing on black dial is very hard as is.... but black on white is nigh impossible... of course, this is just IMHO...
Go for an OP 6518 caseback (B/3000) and you will have an 003B.... which is something I may build myself....
Actually, if you do go 003a T dial, shoot me a price to buy your dial...
The old one is nigh impossible to find... I am safeguarding one myself... hehe, i had 3 at one time as I was going to do the 001B/004B/003B trifecta but then went gen...
hopefully a 001B or 003B... leaning to 003B....my caseback is irreplaceable as it is the B2000/3000 which is correct for an L dial.... any before 1480 or so (like the more common B1176/3000 cb) is for a T dial... at least that is true on the 001B dials
