Just got my A6497 Pam111. Wound it, but nothing will move. None of the hands appear to be touching anything. Am I missing a step to get this started?

also more description would help.. how many turns did you wind it? can you hear the tick-tock when you wind it? The a6497 is fairly loud and you should be able to hear it easily.

My apologies. I didn't count the winds, I'd estimate 20 or more. There is no noise from the watch. It was purchased from Hont : http://hontwatch.com/productdetails_856

The balance does not move. If I lightly shake the watch it will move by itself for a short time.

Actually, after a light shake I can hear it have a constant tick. But even that slows to a stop.

My guess is that the hairspring has either twisted on itself or has become magnetized (and sticks to itself). I'm no pro at this stuff, but I've read enough threads about this subject to know that it's not uncommon in Asian 6497's.

A quick and easy test to see if it is magnetized is to bring the watch close to a compass (e.g. http://www.solarnavigator.net/images/compass_pocket.jpg). If the compass moves due to the watch, it's magnetized. If not, it's obviously something else..

To demag it, you could use something like this:

I personally own the FB-122 on that page and it worked to fix my pam112.

A firm or a few firm smacks on the front crystal can do it sometimes (serious)

Advice I received here for the same problem is to open the case back and blow into the movement (with a dry exhale!). Worked for me--twice. It does imply in my case that there is a little piece of dirt/hair/belly-button lint/chicken feather circulating around inside, and that it will periodically stop until I deal with it properly. Good luck!

When you wind it does the large ratchet wheel move? Of not and it's just clicking your keyless may not be engaging properly. Your mainspring has no power if you gently shake it and the balance moves.

This is the ratchet wheel and is attached to the mainspring.
