I bought a Noob V3 PAM111 N-series in a m-m deal last year and from day one it had a slipping main spring and very low and unreliable power reserve. I now took it to a retired watchmaker to have the spring replaced. He can't open the barrel to get to the spring. He said usually barrels had a notch on the side to open them from the side or you push on the center to pop it open. This barrel seem doesn't do either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it open or where to get a replacement spring and barrel? The movement is a 6497 - 2 with the faster beat rate. I'm in Australia.

The barrel opens by pushing on the arbor (screw side). There is a simple tool made for this but you can apply a good deal of pressure to get it to pop. It may be advantageous to fully seat the screw that holds the ratchet wheel before applying pressure. Put it screw side down against a flat surface and press on the edges with a good deal of force.

You can always buy a full replacement barrel. Part # 182/1421. Ofrei has them, as well as just about all other parts re-sellers.
