PAM 029 GMT trouble

A few months back I bought a PAM029 from a TD here. I'm not entirely sure about the movement, but it feels like a 7750.

I haven't worn it much, but over the past month or two I've noticed that the GMT hand has grown more and more reluctant.

Initially, I could get it moving by winding it up and giving it a firm but loving smack into the palm of my hand. That doesn't seem to be working anymore.

I understand this is a common complaint with this model and I'm surprised that a search here didn't turn up more. As is, I found this thread:

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/pam-029-issues-138481

It looked promising, but I've been searching this forum for about 30 minutes and can't find anything helpful.

Can somebody point me to a clue?

I would dearly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Not a 7750 . Its most likely a 2836-2 GMT
pull stem out to main hand set position
wind hands through at least 48 hr
set main hands
set GMT
set date
do it in this order only!
even if the date is correct make it move slightly before locking crown.
If this does not work it's time to have it looked at. Good luck.

1. Pull the hand out to the third position and set the hour and minute hands
2. Push the hand in slightly to the second position and set the GMT hand by rotating the crown down
3. In the same potion rotate the crown up until the date moves ever so slightly (assuming the date is set to the correct date and you don't want to change it)
4. Push in the crown and screw it down....you should be good to go.

Took this from another post. Apologies if the writer of this doesnt approve. But works for me everytime and my 029 has been on the winder for over 1.5years now.

Pretty much same as the above post ^^^^^

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Flyr, I agree it is most likely a 2836-2. I believe when I ordered it I did so believing the 2836 was a higher quality movement compared to the 7750. I've been playing with this watch for an hour or so tonight and the movement doesn't set like a 7750 - the hands don't wind as fast. I presumed 7750 because manually winding it reminds me of the feel of a 7750. At any rate. . .

Thanks for the tip and I will set the watch in the prescribed order. I assume this means that this movement is not subject to the same precautions associated with other movements with quick-set date? E.G. do not set the date with the hour set between 10:00 and 2:00?

Again, thanks for the info. I do appreciate it.

Mine is stuffed at the mo. Date stuck and won't move. Had a problem for a while of the hands sticking at midnight, now this. Looks like it's going in for a repair or sold as is. Shame, such a nice watch!!
