was working on the 024a and discovered that some of the bezel markers are secured by screws! the rest are glued securely in place. the bezel is constructed using a metal ring with 2 click springs secured at 2 points on the case and a plastic spacer/bezel retainer/ratch teeth which keeps the bezel in place and gives it the 12 click position. the use of plastics explains the buttery smooth bezel action w no audible clicks! finishing under the bezel is top notch! quite surprising for a rep.

how do you pop out the bezel on the 024? do you think it could be done the same way on the 187?...i have to change the bezel...i got a spare case...but i think it would be easier to exchange only the bezel than the whole case and crystal...

When you say you "fully waterproofed the watch" Can you explain that process?

These pam subs are growing on me. I am shocked at the quality of your rep... Mind sharing where it came from?

dadog: i used a bezel knife. the 187 shld come out easily. it's nt constructed the same way as the 24 tho. the 24's bezel is amazing.

c4: i added o-rings and used silicone grease on them. i also added silicon glue on the joint between the crystal and the case.

sperry1: it was from eddie lee..bought it last yr.

...babola in his philosophical mood today:

Mate, I sometimes wish the quality, detail, finish and the whole look and feel of those late 2005 / early 2006 reps could be repeated nowadays...the sad thing is - they probably never will.

The PAM reps you get these days, even the 3rd and 4th iteration of the original early rep model are simply leaving a lot to be desired :-(

What ever happened to a good old 001, 002, 024, 036, 172, 192...etc - wait, I know - they were all killed by a mass production of a suddenly over-popular Panerai brand during late '06, early 07.
Rep makers simply stopped caring about quality and closeness to 1:1 with the gen - PAM reps wer selling like hotcakes, so why would they care about flourescent green lume on dial markers, mediocre (read:bad) A/R coating, oversized (in radius, unfortunately, not the thickness) CGs, crown sitting 1mm off the case more than they should, overexcited crown maker that would bevel the crown edges to the point the crown itself looked 0.5mm thinner than it really is, falling off bezel markers off the 2-week old Subs, dodgy hybrid mov'ts being sold as Swiss ETAs, exploding quasy-sapphire xtalls...the fricking list goes on and on...

But we shouldn't give up the fight mates, right? :)

cheers,
babola

Ah yes, but not ALL 24s have the bezel this way. I had to buy two before I got one like this. The first 24 had this bezel ring glued to another metal bezel ring with teeth underneath.

I did he same thing you did, palp crown, and I added oring to the crown tube and crown. Waterproof as hell now! And it looks badass to boot. and I made a new pearl for mine.......I will redo it but I had to have a first experiment!

thanks for the nice images!
fully water proof -- you mean you pressure tested the watch?
