I have no idea what a 118 is worth, sorry.

I'm not rich, so I'm forced to be a bit of a bargain hunter with my PAMs. I got both of my gen PAMs (combined) for less than the 118 is listed for in USD.

It's a rare bird, and I love the E/F/G movement and sausage dials. Ti/brown combo is a winner, too. The big question, as long as you're not buying it to flip, is: "Is it worth it to YOU?"

EDIT -- A quick scan of some of the FS ads on 'Risti show the price is a bit high. 3500-3750 Euros would be better...

Well, it seems expensive to me. As for the Paneristi site, i would like to buy there, i don't know though how possible it is for someone there to sell a rep presenting it as a gen.

I've bought 2 watches from the Paneristi/ViaPaneristi, if you get and check lots of references, it is one of the safest places to buy from. Plus, just post the pics here, if it's a fake, one of us will catch it...

Is the dial some sort of optical illusion in those pics? It looks sandwich. Or, perhaps even filled. Doesn't look sausage to me, but maybe it's just a bad angle or something.

I don't know what the dial is supposed to be, just an observation based on these pics.

Savage, I believe sausage dials are filled, for the historic models (some of the Contemporary dials are just "painted" on the surface of the dial, I think). They just fill them to the point that the lume is above the surface level of the dial. Some of the older "sausage" dials are filled to at, or just below the surface of the dial. My 002D is just like this 118, filled to just below the surface of the dial. I'm sure your gen Zero (and I believe ALL gen Zeros and 005s) are filled to levels above the surface of the dial, right?

FWIW, there doesn't seem to be a standard, I've seen pics of the PAM040 (which was a B series watch) with lume filled just below the surface, and with lume that is filled well above the surface of the dial.

I'm afraid this might be yet another example of Panerai's legendary inconsistency.

Absolutely gen.
Worth the money? (Euros not dollars)

Seems like a great deal. Last gen 118 that I saw sold went for $7,400.00 USD

Bearcat, there was a 118 in May and one in Dec. 07 on 'Risti.com. Each of them sold for less than $5K.

I'm afraid someone overpaid at $7.4K.

That makes sense. If there's one thing Panerai is consistent about, it's inconsistency. Yeah, my Zero's numbers and indices are quite high. Wonder if even the historics are painted on top in the later series. Hmm. Have to check in to that.

FWIW, I love the look of this dial and the model in general. Pricing aside, it's a lovely piece.

Hooligan:

The one that I saw sold in Germany at a high-end watch auction. Lots of wealthy germans, swedes and danes driving up the prices.

Thanks,

Big 118 Fan... Great watch. A bit more believable to have this on your wrist then a 036 as well.

Last prices i saw were around 3500,-€ for a 95% preowned 118. but it seems they´re starting to go up, even though i saw a 061 some tome ago for 2500,-€ (paid prices, not asking prices). Concerning the dial, they varied fron filled flush, slightly overfilled to slight ly underfilled indices in the pre-cut dials. This one seems slightly underfilled which is generally considered more desireable by most collectors.
Oh and of course this one is gen!
