For you purists this watch may blind your eyes but I'm in love with it. Pam 001 dial, 111 case, 6497 movement. All made from parts, aged and I bought it cheap ($70).

The only problem is on the 001 the hands don't seem to match. I checked another 001 dial and the hands are exactly the same. The hour and minute hands are lined in black ink and the second hand is lined in white. They don't seem to match. What I'm thinking of doing is staining all the hands to match the stained dial better. The hour/minute hands are nice but still a little light but the second hand is pretty white. Am I crazy for messing with it or should I darken the hands? And which method (smoke, heat, coffee, etc) would you use to match up the hands with the dial? Many thanks, Gerald

PS If any of you guys have any frankensteinian Pams cheap like the above don't be bashful. Send me a PM as I could use some more.

I would leave it alone, personally. Lots of neo-vintage PAMs have dials/hands that haven't aged at the same rate.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most T dial Pams have hands that are less yellow.

So there is no lume there now? However, the watch looks very good to me. I think if you want to do something with the hands, you should get the spare set. In case mistake, you can still have the watch with new set of hand. Otherwise, it will be for a while before you can get it on the wrist again.

I don't know why it was so cheap. He mentioned something about scratching it but I've been looking with my magnifiers and cant see any scratches. There is good lume on the hands and slight lume on the hour markers. I guess I'm not going to mess with it as I'd just screw it up. Now to clarify I bought just the head only. Here is what he said about the dial:

unlike my other 001, the dial for this is aged using a direct flame, resulting in a deeper, darker colour for the markers.

He also said he ages hands/dials by the following:

putting it into an oven set at max temp
putting it onto a heating element
direct flame
thick paste of instant coffee
tan paint

Anyways thanks for the comments.
