I thought I would post a little review on this as many people have shown interest in this model but there has not been much lately about what is actually out there. I contacted the WackoBirdKeeper about one of these a couple of weeks ago along with a Rolex Deep Sea because I was needing another one after selling it last year. Strange how a watch that you are tired of becomes easy to sell but six months later you want one again. The WackoBirdKeeper (Stan) took a week to get back to me and said he "would have a price on them on Saturday", a couple of days later. On Monday after not hearing from him I ordered a $125 special Deep Sea from Hont Wu and also on Monday Stan finally got back to me with a good price for the Oris and the Rolex. I purchased the Oris via discrete Paypal and he said he would ship the next day (Tuesday) and it came today (Thursday) two days later, strangely enough the Deep Sea that I ordered a day earlier than the Oris came from China (Hontwatch is really fast now) and it surely has been a good week for watches around here.
I went and smoked cigars with my Brother in law Wednesday and admired my Rolex watch in the early spring weather and today I smoked my Thursday cigar with my retired Father and admired my Oris in the Springlike weather. This son of a gun really sparkles in the sun! The high polish lugs, crown and pushers, coin bezel and link ends are very pleasing, especially for a guy who is crazy for polished center and link ends and domed crystals (too bad these do not have domed crystals). I like the large size of this one, it is a major league job of machining and I am pleased overall, as it is a very impressive watch and most of the fit and finish is good. A few pics before I ramble on...
There are some "bin marks" on the side where the other cases rubbed against it before assembly
on the wrist
Size comparison to the "tiny" Rolex Sub
clasp, nothing special, dont know if the gen has printing here
Clasp engraving
Cool Carlos sticker
Speaking of bin marks note the nick in the case 1/4 around from the helium release
and my double exposed lume shot. I suck at lume shots and the lume on this watch sort of sucks but I have t100 Deep Blues and Seiko Frankenmonsters that make all other watch lume suck. Did I mention that I am lume crazy? I am polished center and link end, domed crystal and lume crazy.
Now I may sound like I am dissappointed with this watch but I am not. Yes there are some very light rub marks but those will rub out with some elbow grease and polish and the lume is not great but I am lume biased so no watch that lume fades on in fifteen minutes will impress me. Yes the clasp is a little sharp edged and clanky but that will loosen up with a little use. I was also really impressed with the bracelet. Most reps fit me really tight or are too small out of the box er... bubble wrap er.... envelope (did I mention it came well packed and fit in my mailbox without requiring a signature that would tip my wife off that I bought another watch?) but this fit my 8 1/2" wrist and I even had to remove two extra links when I sized it. So rare to get a rep that has extra links. I keep assorted extra Rolex links on hand so I can just pop them in when a new watch comes and its to small.
Anyway, overall I am quite pleased with this one. I might even leave the rub marks on it as my tired 53 year old eyes can not really see them as my Man cave is a little too dark anyway. And speaking of visibility, (sigh, you thought I was done huh?) this watch is very readable for a chrono. Easy to tell the time! That is important as you younger watch fans will learn in a few years. My next watch budget should really go to a pair of bifocals. The dial is oil pressed in a wave pattern that makes a nice back ground and is not distracting like the Omega Seamasters that make you seasick.
Finally, the price!!! $170 and Stan paid the priority mail. Now, I am not experienced with these so I welcome any opinions and comments good and bad about the accuracy of this rep. I know about Rolex but not Oris, this is my first. There are versions of these out there for $138 and this one at $170 seemed high to me. Lets hear from some people with experience with Oris reps! another size comparison pic, I have it so I might as well post it. Its 47mm I think.
And the pusher crown side, must not forget it.
