Both watches were +9 seconds a day with .6ms error
I thought the .6ms was high for both and told them that, and consequently they instead of answering my question just approved the qc pics..... which i didn't approve myself

People on the forum love ryan, I'm surprised he would ok QC pics like that..... what should I do? Allow the watches to ship, or ask them to be switched out

Isn't .6ms high? Especially one for to a movement without a selfwinding rotor attached...

I think 9 sec is ok, I have seen a couple of my watches gain a minute in a couple days, So I messed with the regulator and got them a lot better. I would not worry, is not COSC like 5 sec.

I agree with Thrasher on the 9 seconds thing.

Ok as far as the beat error, most watchsmiths i have talked to say .8ms is the highest they will accept.
Im not a watchsmith but i do have a Timgrapher, so i do have a little experience , and i do my own timing and adjustments.

I always try to get my b/e down to 0 or at least .1 ms.........this is on my swiss units.
But to be honest, alot of our rep movements WILL NOT tune much finer than .5ms .....so you are a LITTLE over on that aspect.

But heres the kicker.....i have one 21j that i cannot get the beat error down past 1.4ms...... but that watch runs +10 seconds a day all the time. The best i can get it, but it is consistant

So you think I'll be safe to go ahead and accept it?

Hi, imho You should accept it.
3. Beat Error - how equal each swing of the balance wheel oscillation is.
  • Excellent : 0.0 - 0.5 milliseconds
  • Acceptable : 0.6 - 1 milliseconds
My layman opinion is this one: the main reason for the timegrapher pics in the qc-process is to show that the watch runs; results will depend on the position, temperature and if it´s just been given 2 or 3 winds to make it run or if it´s fully wound; the same goes for the +9s a day, in reality once the watch has been used for 2 months and "run-in" the result will be different.
If everything was ok visually it´s fine, don´t worry.

And what Daywatch says is correct......

The biggest probblems ive seen with a bad beat error is if the watch runs down, it wont just start up with winding, you might need to shake it a bit, and im talking about a 3.5 or more b/e here.....

That one looks good to me too.

Reason i asked for it was cause you said that they both had the same b/e and the same 9sec timing and i was afraid that the timer was paused for the pic, but i see that is not the case as the BPH is infact different.
