Opinions on PVD used in Davidsen Pams

Guys:

I am a bit torn on this as I have only owned one other PVD watch and it was an SBS "homage" from a guy who sells on Ebay as WatchesU571 and is well known by guys on PMWF.

I have a Davidsen PVD 195 and well, at first I thought it was different from the PVD SBS watch because that one was a "Cheap charlie".

Well then I started to see photos of Gens and other PVD watches and more and more am beginning to feel that this may not be PVD at all but a coating. (NB There was a new guy that ranted about his PVD watch and I gave him a little flak about his Paypal comments--my apologies as I now see what you mean on this watch). It scratches off down to the metal way too easily and does not appear to be "anodized" in appearance (if that makes any sense) or "parkerized" like the other photos I have seen. What I mean by this is in the other pics of gens, etc--you can see the metallic sheen but the metal is dark--it isn't coated like paint or M-NU.

Here's the rub, the buckle I bought aftermarket from Panatime is finsihed the exact same way as Davidsens! Am I nuts or off base--IE is the Davidsen PVD the real deal and these others are cheaper versions (the Gen being one that is worn down?) or is the PVD being repped in Asia right now is cheap crap and not real PVD?

I had an offer to send my watch to RBJ to look at, but do not feel comfortable mailing it around at this point (might mail the buckle to have it looked over).

Any input or guidance appreciated.

I believe Davidsen's PVD is the "Real Deal" I bought a Greg strap with a PVD buckle and it looked identical. However I have been in contact with RBJ and he claims it is not. At least not the same quality as he can get. After seeing his photos I tend to agree with him. However I do still think Davidsen offers the best PVD coating our money can buy.

I know that there is information on the Paneria service site that talks about what to do if / when your PVD coating starts to scratch off... Basically they say send the watch back to us and we will remove it all for $150 and take the watch down to a brushed metal finish, they will not re-plate the watch.

Thats about all I know.

cheers

Gentlemen:

Thank you all for your replies. I think I feel much better now. Crisis averted.

Now back to giggling over how Daniel Craig (and his countrymen) pronounce "Omega"

(Yes, the ultimate PO is my next watch!) :)

correction sir, lol i said that only about that one piece that someone got , only because it had some weird chips that true pvd does not do,(also from those same pics his coating appears to be thick like a type of thin paint or powder coating would look like, pvd is very thin and almost more or less is like how bluing a gun is on the metal ( no real thickness basically) now that being said i do not think davidsen is at fault if this turns out to be non pvd , only because he had someone else do the work from my understanding

and until i have a piece in front of me to examine i can not say it is not pvd ,

DSN PVD is the best I saw, either in gen watches.

Just take care of your watch, never, ever put it in your pocket with any metal (coins, lighters, keys etc.)

And enjoy your PVD.
