Well, out of the box this is a pretty good rep. It's not the best "out of the box" PAM rep out there, however. Are you set on a manual wind PAM or are you open to automatic watches?

Actually, I like Automatics better. Any suggestions and from whom?

The new PAM104 or PAM229 are your best bets. Both of them need very few mods out of the box. I believe there is only one source for the new models other than DSN, so if you go with any other dealer, I think they all same the same watch. With DSN's recent QC issues, it might be less hassle to look elsewhere. It's up to you. Good luck and post lots of pics when you get the watch!

What about the new DSN reps with closed back? Which one is the best out-of-the box? What's your opinion? I'm thinking of buying one with a manual wind, this week.

His 002A is pretty good. The 010D is still hard to beat, though. The 005/195 are worth a look, too. The 082 is also an option as his Ti crowns are really nice.

Do you know if the 010D gen comes in both T and L dials, or just T dials? DSN seems to have the L dial. Other than that, overall, everything looks pretty good for the 010D, no?

d'oh! just found a 106D with tritium.....

I've looked at so many 009b's, 001b's, etc that were all L Swiss L...

I should just leave this stuff to babola and hooligan....

According to risti site, it is a T dial, along with "most(?) other dials until E, when they switched to L.

The picture of the 010 on the 'Risti reference page is likely an A series or early B series. *Most* of Panerai's lineup changed to Luminova dials during the B series. As a rule of thumb, if it is middle/late B series or newer, you can expect an L dial. The Submersible lineup immediately comes to mind as an exception. It's not true in every case (like EVERYTHING with Panerai, there is lots of variation), but it is true far more often than not.

Good luck.

Oooooooh, I see. So you think they posted 010A or 010B on there? Which means DSN010D is right on the money? I'm assuming DSN010D comes with D caseback, huh? I'm seriously thinking about it then. To stay true to this post, I'll mention that 010D must be a better choice for accuracy than the 002A, huh?

P.S. @hooligan: sometimes I wonder if you aren't a Panerai employee come here to spy on us as a long term undercover agent or something.... :p

Yep, that would be my guess. They show you a picture of a 010, but they don't specify which series the watch is in the photo. Since it was an A-D series run, it could be any of them.

Panerai employee, me? You're thinking of babola, that's who I stole all my good answers from. 8) The bad answers are all mine, though.
