The better rep movements in the 111s are looking incredibly close to gen these days to my eye.

Can someone explain the obvious 'tells' on the rep movements please?

Any pictoral support would also be appreciated. :)

I look to the incabloc jewel holder...that's the quickest tell for me

It's also the ONLY tell. ;)

Here is one of mine. Other than that tell this thing is tits!

When you say 'incabloc jewel holder', I assume you are referring to the two rainbow shaped pieces surrounding the jewel?

On the OP XI movement, they are a slightly different shape at one end almost creating a 'v' shape.

Is that it? Is that really the only tell when comparing rep and gen movements with the naked eye and without opening up the watch?!

It's shaped like that for no reason. Just cause they wanna I guess. You can get it changed out, but is maybe the single most PITA you'll experience.

Here is a Gen. You tell me

So, scrutinising the movement, the tells appear to be:

- incabloc jewel holder is incorrect shape
- the '+' sign is too far away from the blue screw
- top bar of the E if Officine is shorter than the E in Panerai
- the bevel on the two cogs (apologies for my terminology) should start closer to the edge
- 'seventeen' starts too close to the edge
- the movement serial number is too close to the blue screw

The last two would be tricky to see with the caseback on.

Anyone know of others?

If this sort of thing bothers you at all, I would advise getting out of the rep game asap.

The purpose of my questioning has been mis-interpreted... it's not that these differences bother me, but rather I'm incredibly impressed at the small number and incredibly minor 'tells' on out-of-the box and (relatively) cheap reps.*

I've had a few reps over the years, ranging from bad to very good. However, even the very good ones had immediate tells, e.g. the movement in the 328, questionable dial printing, etc.*

However, the factories now appear to be releasing reps that even educated rep collectors may struggle to differentiate from gen... and even with display casebacks! This is pretty crazy really.*

I'm do not pass reps off as gens but do like to have the odd one in my collection for interest. Think the 111 is on my list.*

Thanks for the help guys.*
