Does anyone have any insight into this specialty watch? I think I might like it better than a SMP!

That's nice... although I could do without the olympic rings... I never competed in them or worked with IOC, USOC... so I wouldn't feel right wearing the rings... (now USASOC, on the other hand, I sure did... but I doubt they'll make a USASOC OMEGA anytime soon... if they do, please oh please, let me know!)

Really? I think the color scheme, red and snow white, is actually not at all bad... and certainly great for winter olympics, winter sports, mountain or pole expe...

i agree 200%!!! if one was never involved with the games specifically, whether as an athlete or coach, then one should feel awkward to wearing the symbol or logo -- especially something like this that is on the world stage.

however as 2010 games are right around the corner, there will be everything "vancouver olympics" related out there for marketing and sale.

if they had something for "special olympics" i would order and wear it. over the last 20 years, i have volunteered my time and energies to this cause and sporting event. something out a disabled or challenged individual trying their best in an event, laughing and never giving up that makes an abled body individual like me stop and further challenge myself.

i will never forget the 1st time i volunteered with special olympics as an escort for the young child who had multiple physical, mental challenges pushing him in his wheel chair to every event / heat he was entered and his energy that whole day; it brought a sense of pride for him and a tear in my eye ... it is DEFINITELY one of the few shining moments/memories still alive in my mind and heart! that was back in 1984.

I think it's really stupid tactics from Omega to make all these cheesy "special edition models". It cheapens the brand image (just imho).

I agree Bytor but in 10 years we will be sitting and scrolling through the TimeZone sales and this will be one of those models that sells for like 3-5K. :D I would bet when the great white came out, even though it wasn't a special edition, people either hated it or adored it. Go figure.

Anyway, is it cheesy? I say yes but I think the gaytona is the stinkiest of all cheesy watches.

Personally, I like the look. There aren't that many watches with red accents and clean lines that I would want to wear, but this one makes the list.

About not feeling "worthy" to wear it -- I have not competed in the Olympics, but I didn't act in any of the Bond movies either, despite my dashing good looks and propensity for getting other people into trouble.

I don't think wearing the watch is necessarily an indicator of having participated, so I wouldn't be worried about it....but that's just me.

+1

but everybody's got a different slant on things. personally, i've never really understood the "007", the "quantum of solace" or the "top gun" symbols on those omega's and iwc. what, you wanna be a mi6 agent or a graduate of miramar fighter school to wear the watch? if not, you only had to have seen the movie? but the fact that you're then wearing an ad on an expensive watch (it's not the watch worn in the movie; guarantee you bond wouldn't wear a watch thay says "quantum of solace" on it), doesn't it make you look a little dorky? like, oooh, i'm soooo james bond...

i dunno, i grew up on bond movies, love them and the books, love omegas, love the SMP, PO, and UPO, but would never even consider wearing a watch that had "007" or "quantum of solace" on the dial or hands. just me n IMHO...

then again, never understood why people buy badly-painted comemorative plates w/ "charles n di", "elvis", or the pope on it to display in their homes, so what the hell do i know about anything...
