I'm sure most of us in the know are aware of the latest offering by Omega to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of a Bond Movie by releasing this watch inspired by the colors of the Royal Navy.
Here are the press release images and from popular watch blogs:
Since the true colors tend to be edited out in favor of what looks good on a monitor, I requested my AD to help me with pictures of a live piece. Here they are:
This is the steel edition 'limited' to 7007 pieces.
Now the conundrum I face is:
This isn't a universally appealing Bond LE unlike the previous Spectre Seamaster 300, prices of which went up after Bond wore the piece in the movie. I recently saw an NOS advertised for 15K! LNIB for ~8K and flying at anything under that, usually 7.5K.
Would it be wise to 'invest' in this and sell it after the movie's release for the same amount or a slight premium? If at all Bond wears it in the movie. Because if he doesn't, it'll probably lose value.
If it does lose value, I obviously won't be inclined to sell it immediately. Now Seamaster Ceramic reps are not even remotely close to Gen unless you franken with a Gen dial and bezel, which are hard to come by. The factories may rep the Commander's Edition but I doubt they'll get the ceramic bezel and the Royal Navy colors right. None of the factories have been able to rep the Gen Omega or Tudor NATOs either.
I didn't find the design and colors appealing at first either BUT the AD whom I have a good relationship with, offered me an 18% discount (Retail is $4850) if I placed a 10% deposit on a pre-order.
This puts it right at the price I was working on for a superfranken ceramic Rolex.
So it's Superfranken ceramic Rolex vs Gen 'limited' edition Commander's Edition or wait a year and maybe earn on the Bond and put it towards a Gen ceramic Rolex.
Look forward to reading your opinions!
