At a meeting of our local watch enthusiast group, I met a fellow who had a passion for old Seiko Chronographs. I was very impressed with his "Bullheads" (named for the crown and pushers at 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00 like the horns of a bull. Very fat cases too. I vaguely remember them from the 70's but that era is somewhat of a fog. LOL! I had a Seiko "Pogue" back then and (like many) jumped on their LCD bandwagon as I embraced the digital age for a few short years before returning to analog timepieces.
A few weeks ago I bought my first bullhead which is a modern re-issue with a quartz movement. Nice watch from a great seller in Japan and an excellent price at $212US including 4 day shipping.
I still have been hankering for a vintage automatic.
Lo and behold, my buddy sent me an e-mail yesterday and asked if I was interested in one of his. I remember that it was in very nice shape. We met today and the watch is a solid 8 or 8.5 out of 10 and much better shape than many I have seen over the last couple years.
Quick micro adjustment and it fits perfectly. No box but 2 spare links. A very nice watch approaching the 40 year old mark. This is the North American version of a wtch that was refered to as the "Speed Timer" in Japan. Those can fetch $1000US in this condition. I paid less than half that and am very happy with my purchase. I have a few of their Monsters and a couple Neos (aka: Mini Monster) and couple vintage LCD's. My Seiko count is at 10 now and I think I'll call that collection complete. I would sure like a gold-faced "Pogue" but time will tell.
Here's a few shots:
'Cept for a little ding on the crown and some clasp scuffs it is sooper-dooper clean. Face and hands starting to show some patina but that only adds to its charm.
Now to find a vintage box to complete the set. Anyone have one?
Man, the hi-rez foto really shows off my sasquatch-hairy arm!
