Noob watch winding question...

Just got my first PAM last week. It's a rep Fiddy. When I wind my watch, am I supposed to flip up the crown guard lever, or do I use that feature only when changing the time? I do notice the crown comes out slightly when the guard lever is flipped up. But turning it doesn't change the time until I pull up on the crown one more stop...
Basic question, for a basic kinda guy...Thanks!

Always (!) flip up the lever when winding. Winding with closed lever means winding with the crown pressed towards the case which leads to damaged rubber seals. When you open the lever, crown moves away from the case by a tiny spring. Purpose is the same - to protect rubber seals.

Only the old Italian hardcore military divers winded with the lever shut.
They could get shot/explode/drown every day. so they couldn´t risk getting water in their watches that´s why they didnt bother with the lever and the rubber seals would probably outlive them!
