Noob v8 GMT Master II with broken movement - help needed

Hi!

I bought a Noob v8 GMT Master II with a a3187 movement a couple of years ago from the M2M section. The watch was in working condition, and I was told to be careful when setting time and winding the watch.

I tried my best...

At first the jumping hour hand function failed. Watch went on working for some time, but now I cant wind it. It's still possible to set hour- and minute hands.

By some googling I've learned the a3187 movement is very fragile, if not just a POS movement.

What do I do from here? This is my first and only rep, and I really enjoy wearing it. Is it possible to change the movement? If so, what movement do you recommend? And do I need new set of hands? I have no experience with operating inside a watch.

TIA

Get a 2836 GMT movement, also known as a Hangzhou 6460. You'll need a new hand set.

You may be able to install a VR3186, but I'm not that familiar with the Noob V8 case. If it can accommodate the VR3186, you need a new hand set and possibly new dial, or just modify the current dial by cutting the feet and using dial dots or soldering new feet to secure dial. New dial may be better.

I'd honestly just get a new watch unless you want to dump a bunch of cash into a project.

Thank you for your reply!

If possible and not too expensive, I would rather keep my watch.

I like the idea of a 2836 movement and a new set of hands. Seems doable to a novice like me. Do you know if the dial fits that movement? And where do I find the hands?

Thanks again

Yes, dial will fit the movement. You may have to swap the date wheel from the old movement over to the new one. Hands can be found on various websites like Raffles or eBay.

You'll need to invest in proper tools to do the job successfully. It's easy to break the seconds hand pinion, and even easier to scratch or bend the new hands. Easy to have an issue with the keyless works, which will require taking apart the top half of the movement. New movement and hands can easily run you upwards of $200usd. No guarantee the hands lume will match the dial. You may want to

Don't be too proud to discuss having a local watchsmith or one on the forum fix it.

The Noob V8 movement with hour jumping is a 2824 timebomb, yours has exploded.

The case will not take a 3186 without internal modding so not recommended.

You can use a 2836 GMT and need only the hour hand and GMT hand, which will need to be relumed if you want to match the other hand and dial markers. Unless you can get a set of 2836 GMT hands M2M from an older rep.

Swap CHS to ICHS

Alternately your 2824 movement can be repaired with a new more robust jump click from Ben in Belgium

Fix for the GMT timebomb movement

Ali Express has A2836 GMT movements and hand sets, you can get everything for about $75

There are also a lot of GMT hand sets on Ali Express.

They will not be quite as nice as rep factory hands but should be satisfactory after reluming if that even bothers you. Aftermarket hand lume is usually green or medium blue, not Rolex blue-green aka Chromalight.

US $7.15 35%OFF | GMT Watch Hands Set Fit Mingzhu 3804 2813 NH34 NH35 NH36 Miyota 8215 821A ETA 2824 2836 PT5000 Automatic Movement Luminous

Search for "GMT hand 2836" and closely examine the quality - shape of the hole surrounds, shape of the GMT triangle etc.

Could you help me find the correct dial spacer for a 2836 movement? Or does it come with one?
Also what do you mean with DWO regarding the date wheel? Can I use my CHS date wheel?

TIA

The new 2836 GMT movement will come with a dial spacer. You can use your CHS DW Overlay (DWO) but it will have to be sliced off the CHS datewheel and reglued onto the 2836 ICHS datewheel. The two datewheels have different tooth ring heights.

Quick and Dirty DWO Alignment

Gen or Gen-spec DW as a DWO
