Hi guys,

Just bought a nice noob blancpain fifty fathoms from pure time.
The watch is really nice, however I have an issue with the lume (it doesn't last more than 5 minutes).

Is this normal? Should I get a relume? If so, any recommendations?

Many thanks,
Alex

What is your definition of 'lasting?' I have multiple 'super lumed' watches and they will look dormant, but if I go into a dark room, they are still going strong. The BPFF is one of the best out of the box reps that in my experience, has superb stock lume. I wouldn't worry about it.

A good test I use is to spend 10-15 minutes outside in the afternoon, come inside, drink a beer or cocktail and then go into a dark room and see if it's still there -- if it is, you're golden

One of the best lumed gen or rep watches there is, the lume lasts all night as well, meaning You can read the time all night in a totally dark room (maybe not in a somewhat lit room). Try to hit it with a flashlight.

Thanks for sharing your experience guys.
nalomb, The idea is that it charges really nice, has a bright lume, which lasts for 5 minutes, and then indeed it is visible during the night in a dark room, but it's really dim, being barely visible.
Daywatch, So it lasts all night but the lume is at 10% of the original charged value? Because that is the case for me.

You could post pics but I don't think your watch is any different than anyone else's. The only watches I consider long lasting are my gen Omega's. Most of the reps I own I can still see at night but they do have lower intensity. Did you buy the lite version? Not even sure that would make a difference but it could.

Yup, that's about right. If you have 10% after 8 hours or so you are doing very well indeed. The gen is no better either as that's about as good as good lume gets. I think what we have here is a misapprehension of the nature and brilliance of luminous pigments. It's not like the good old days where the glow from luminescent materials was excited by radioactive compounds and thus remained a constant for several years.

Yep superluminova even has its limits. I charge my Noob SubC before going to bed with a 240 lumens sure fire flashlight I have by the bedside. It's is very bright for about 15-30 minutes, but fades quickly. I can see it hours later but it's nowhere near as visible as the tritium markets on my Luminox. The trade off is that the tritium looks weak in anything but very low light and when the SubC has just been charged up you barely notice the tritium. It's not a perfect world. I just bought the Helson Blackbeard which is a different style of homage to the Blancpain FF. I bought the black bezel black and white dial. It glows differently than the white beard style with white bezel and completely white dial but it does look nice when lit up as does my FM Casanova all white dial when fully charged.

I think many of the Quartz watches light up just as good as genuine vs reps. It's about layering the superluminova as it is more like a paste as the thinking agent dries.

You could always send it of to Vac if you want it better, but the sapphire bezel won't be getting any better because the lume powder is under the sapphire.

I know you can buy key chain UV lights that will charge up the powder very quick. It's based on heating the molecules and it's done best with UV and IR, which is why sunlight usually charges up the superluminova best, as it contains much more than the visible spectrum.

I just bought a genuine FF and this is exactly the way it behaves. I was actually extremely disappointed because I figured for that kind of money the tech would be better. I was expecting that first ten minutes of incredibly cool illumination all night. I find myself charging it with my phone to make it last and then feeling stupid. To be perfectly honest I wish they'd included a supplemental battery that just turns on the glow Indiglo style for full brightness and recharges from the inside.

Don't worry about the Lume. Genuine super luminova last a short while with intense brightness. It drops exponentially. How to tell you have good Lume? Go to a very dark room an hour after firing up the room with a super bright torch or a uv torch. If you still see the markers you are good.

Totally agreed with Alvinado here.
Lume brightness is only one aspect when evaluating the lume quality. IMO duration is more important.
I have owned varies superlumed gens and reps and noob BPFF indeed has one of the best lume in the rep industry based on my experience.

When I was in college (10+ years ago) I found a beat up and completely non-functional seiko in the grass. To this day it has the best lume I've ever seen gen or rep. I've always found that weird .... and worried that I've got some crazy radioactive isotope that's slowly turning me into a mutant.
