Has anyone tested their v3 111 for whether or not it is waterproof?

There was an instruction for a really nifty DIY tester here in the threads two years ago. Maybe that would help.

Most of recent PAMs - non chrono ones at least - are made well enough to be waterproofed just by greasing the case and crown gaskets. Out of factory they all come pretty dry so I always reapply the grease myself and then take it to any mall for a quick waterproof check, they easily pass 3atm and a couple I asked to be tested to 5atm, they passed with flying colors.

I've been able to grease up old reps (10 years) and have them waterproof, so the 111 should be a huge improvement.

If you are going to wear it in water OOTB, you are playing the lottery. I always grease my reps and tighten all screws when I get them just for peace of mind.

Some of the comments about those homemade testers scared me. Conversations about exploding plastic etc. Yikes.

Easiest way is to find a watch repair shop that has a vacuum tester to test the watch for 30 minutes or so. Should cost around $10 to perform.

Best way is to find a watch repair shop with a higher end tester where they remove your movement/dial/hands and stick just the case and crown in a water filled pressure tester for 30 minutes. Should cost around $40 to perform.

Is it okay to take a replica to a watch repair shop though? I'd think they'd reject it because they'd be scared of breaking it.

Tough call. Never take it to an Authorized Dealer or a high end watch store, but a lot of people have had luck taking it to shops that are primarily for watch repair instead of watch sales. If you just tell them you bought it abroad while on a trip somewhere, and you freely admit that it's not a genuine watch and the value is only a couple of hundred bucks, most places will accept it.

If you stress that it has some sentimental value to you, and don't appear to be a ripoff artist of some sort, you'll do fine. There's a thread about it here somewhere titled "how to find a local watchsmith"

And guys in the shopping mall, "fast-fix" watch repair places that do the vaccuum testing would never know or care that it is a fake watch.
