No Seiko movements in reps?

Serious question here, guys! Why are the Seiko movements used in all the Ali and microbrand watches not used in reps? It seems to me the only downside to reps is the potential failure of the movement and having to send it to a rep-friendly watchmaker to service it adding extra $$$ to the overall cost.

Would you not be happier with the reliable Seiko movement wherever possible? Just me?

The market is driven by what people want
1) cheapest movement possible like a2813 for affordable shitters to buy for a laugh.
2)ETA clone movements for gen feel and function and ability to substitute genuine parts for enthusiasts
The middle ground of a reliable Seiko nh35 would mean a more expensive shitter or a less gen feeling high end rep so there's no real demand.
People like rafflesdials sell Rolex replica nh35 cases and dials for hobby builds which are fun, but there doesn't seem a market for production pieces.
It's a shame as I am fan of the nh35 it is the Glock of the watch movement world.

NH35 may be reliable but it does not achieve any kind of accuracy for replicas. Have you ever noticed that your NH35 watches have a deep dish pizza rehaut? The handstack is very deep.....

Just buy a Submariner homage instead or something if you want a reliable Sub look alike.

And actually, there is a Seiko movement in rep. the APS villeret moonphase.

Anyways. There's plenty of reliable movements in rep game. M9015, ETA2824/SW200, ETA2892/SW300, etc, etc, quartz replicas, it's just that they are unsexy and people don't like them. Everyone just likes Rolex, and for this, Seiko movements don't cut it.

@Reaps you probably did read my mind since i was posting the exact same 6654 APS BPN Villeret ! :D

Which is actually really a one-of-a-kind...the only other Seiko powered Rep is the Grand Seiko (ehehe !) GMT which actually has a NH34 GMT inside

I would love the option of less gen feeling high-end reps with the NH35! It makes sense now. I forget how much other enthusiasts love movements. I just love dials, dive bezels, colours, bracelets, and straps. And I can take the back off my NH35 watches and adjust them with the timegrapher to be plenty accurate enough for me! I'll check out rafflesdials thank you.

I didn't know about the deep dish pizza rehaut. Definitely doesn't bother me, but that must rule out the potential use of the NH35 in a lot more reps. That villeret is pretty sweet thanks for the heads up! Unsexy movements...yeah I just don't get that side of this hobby! I'm clearly in the minority. It's very encouraging to hear there are plenty of reliable movements in the rep game. Thank you, sir!

That blue one is not half bad! Great price. This could be the perfect first rep for me! Thank you kindly.

You won’t get NH35 or NH38 in factory reps
But on custom builds, it’s much more frequent as it’s easy to source parts and they are super reliable
So, I contact a rep-friendly watchmaker, ask if they'd be willing to put an NH into the rep I want, buy the rep, send it to the watchmaker, and Bob is my uncle, right?

I just purchased a Starbucks Subbie from Michael Travis. An abomination (okay, a *bit strong*, but the date is wonky and the cyclops could fry a small town), but the venerable NH34 is near bulletproof, and the price was right, so I did an "eff it!" and purchased. Looks okay enough, and being a Seiko fanboy and having a plethora of the NH3x movements, I'm at peace.

I agree with almost everything here, especially the deep-dish!
Except, I think that years of producing and machining watches for 2813 and 2824 or 2836 have delayed the improvements in cases. It was once hard to find NH35 hands for modding. Now, it's the most common hand size from "affordable" sources.
In summary, I think your summary deserves an award! But, in my opinion, the NHXX cases could be leaps and bounds better if actually modeled around a genuine watch (versus minor changes made to a popular case used for modding).
Again, I totally agree with you, but I want to add that there is likely room for improvement.
