Been lurking for a few months and thought it was time to join the fun. Posted a while ago while in the midst of my search for the perfect rep for myself..."who got da best sub?" Found the best one for me some time ago but still searching, learning and most importantly staying interested.
Here is my everyday tool watch...
As you can see it is a 5512/5513 gilt dial sub. Worked dial and hands, tropic 19, cg's shaped, bezel insert trashed and basically just beaten up a bit to make it look like a worn 30 year old watch.
No it is not an MBW. In hindsight maybe I should of bucked up a bit and went that direction. Wish I had a true bezel assembly and a pre-triple lock crown. But, it is what it is and I am very happy with the piece. And, who is gonna notice that a spring resides in my bezel and the crown has three dots...nobody! I like it.
The insert has aged/worn/faded considerably from the picture. In the process of changing. No rush when the new insert finds me it finds me...
No, not my work nor my picture. Met a fella on one of the boards and it is his his handywork. Top-notch dude.
About myself. I manage a small hotel on the central pacific coast of Costa Rica. My wife and I have been here for 10 months. Some days it is paradise and others hell. Life is life no matter where you are...
This is my wife and I in front of our 1976 Land Rover Series III with a Safari Hardtop, 4 cylinder diesel that generates roughly 65 hp. Chugs right along. Its a beast. I like to compare it to Kubota with a cab. Tough driver, really beats you up. Maybe you can see I'm sporting my Nike Oregon Series, Lance Armstrong edition with compass and altimeter. The watch like the truck need to go to the shop. Watch most likely the trash...saltwater and air is rough on everything.
Back to the rep world... Have purchased 4 reps in the past 6 months. 3 pams along with the Rollie. 2 of the pam purchases were made as gifts and the other is a project that I have underway...
Nothing ground breaking about the project. Bought a non-branded Davidson PVD awhile back and now am in the process of swapping the dial, handset along with the caseback into a 195. Should be pretty cool when I get it done.
Fortunatly I've had good luck finding watchsmiths here in Costa Rica. They have no problem working on the reps and labor is super cheap. Also. they just like the work. Maybe more fun than swapping batteries all day.
My next watch is a Suunto Vector. Since the Nike pooped the bed I find myself needing a wristwatch with alarms and compass from time to time. As far as next rep...do not know. I look and have a new idea everyday but nothing has taken as of yet. When it does then it will be right...no hurry.
Life is pretty good. My world is pretty slow and laid back. It has to be for me to post these pictures with dial-up. I live on a pristine sandy beach that has practically been untouched. World class sunsets await me everyday. In all honesty, time in my world is marked in days, weeks and really seasons (wet/dry) but this little dark world of reps is fun and enlightning. Loosing 5 sec or for that matter 10 min a day is of little concern. Proud to be here and I thank you for giving me something to read during the day other than the news of the world and box scores.
Thats about it. Thanks for reading and give me a shout if you ever get down to CR or are looking for a holiday. I'm sure we could work out some type of trade for a stay....couple of reps?
Later,
Chad
