I built a vintage seamaster 300 using a raffles case set and dial. The movement is a swiss 2836 pulled from a gruen watch. The watch went together easily, but i did not like the look of the bezel. The insert is plastic and looks very modern and two dimensional. Sanding helped a bit, but still looks wrong.
Movement fits well in the raffles spacer with no mods.
Seeing a post by another member, which i will will look up and quote later, inspired me to work in the bezel. Sanding, sharpie markers, gloss sealer and more sanding leads to this result;
Very nice indeed. It has the look of real bakelite in person.
Attached to a vintage style distressed canvas strap, it has a great vintage look.
Ken is away, and as soon as he is back, i am going to build another of these. I will do a step by step tutorial on the bezel mod.
