Ooo! New watch repair toy arrived today! The coveted Oyster Bracelet Separator ... or whatever you want to call it. Didn’t pay those crazy high eBay and Esslinger prices but instead found it on Ali-Express. Arrived within a week DHL for like 1/2 the price.

Practicing on a spare rep bracelet before I dive into my gen bracelets with a bit of stretch.
Pulls apart so smoothly!

I do note I’m leaving a slight scuff on the top of the links. I’ll have to try a few tweaks in my technique to avoid that.
Very cool!

Use small rectangles of 600 grit sandpaper on the upper clamps. A small piece of double-sided tape like from an insert tape ring will hold the sandpaper there. This will keep the clamps from sliding across the links as they are pulled outward.

I will certainly try it. Do you have one too? Was this your mod to it? I’ve been watching thru my loupe and I’m just not seeing the link move as I perform the operation.
As I compress the links back together I’m noticing the sides receive an impression too. Inspecting the grain of the tool, it matches the direction of the marks. Maybe - but not verified - the tool is not polished enough.

I had an offer for three tools for jubilee and oyster and a closing tool for 550$ shipped so like you said those can be had for cheap actually.

I heard from few people the jaws are the problem on that tools. They often break and no replacements are available as far as I'm aware unless you contact someone in china.

The jaws break?! It's 3/8" of stainless steel - even if it is Chinese manufacturing, I'm surprised to hear that thickness breaking under the load. Well, knock on wood I got a good mix of SS.

Yes I have that exact tool and was also getting some link surface scratching. I read about the sandpaper technique somewhere and tried it. It's worked for me ever since. I haven't noticed any link side marring but maybe try short thin wood blocks?
