I've just bought an OMF Speedmaster 57 from Puretime. It's a lovely watch, but I've noticed it rattles a bit when the movement is self winding, especially if I shake my wrist. I've heard some people say you should really get a new rep serviced as soon as possible as the conditions they're put together in in the factories isn't ideal. Is that true?

Never found that I needed to get an initial service myself but one over time and I know that there are users here who would service a watch for you. Any chance of a pic too as interested in getting that watch too at some stage

The old guard would say get the rep serviced right away. 10 yrs ago I think it was good advice, but now I think normally it is best to just wait until it stops working and then get it serviced. In your case if something is rattling in there the watch should be opened and whatever is rattling around should be removed. Sometimes a little screw comes lose. It might seem fine at first, but it is sure to cause problems eventually.

Sure, here are a few pics. The rattle has stopped. It's a lovely watch so I'm happy I got it. It came with two straps, a blue alligator and a brown matt leather. The one gripe I'd have is that the brown leather strap feels a little cheap and isn't as padded as I'd have expected. I'm not sure if the genuine strap is more padded, but it just feels a little thin for the watch. Having said that, I decided to try a black Hirsch sailcloth strap on it and I have to say it's a really nice combination! I think that's what I'll mainly wear it on. I've included 2 pics on each strap.
