Just got this today- and I can’t get the second hand to start up. I’ve run the movement thru it’s paces but the second hand won’t start moving. It was running find during QC on the 29th Jan.

Hoping someone can give me a trick or advice. I’ve had gens and reps since the 1970’s but never the Panerai.

Super happy with the communication and service and fast shipping from Puretime. (it was prolly running correctly during shipping because the date was correct)

So you opened up the Crown Guard lever, wound the crown clockwise 30-40 times and the second hands at 9 does not start to move?

What if you wind it some more and give it a little sideways flip out of your wrist while holding it firmly in your hand? Or a very gentle tap on the side? (Don't want you to accidentally let it fall).

Done. I had done some tapping and shaking. I can hear the weight spinning. It had a funny vibrating feeling a couple times when doing the spin winding of the rotor.

Ok, next step would be to open her up and give the balance a visual inspection. Sometimes parts come loose during transport and block the mechanism.

Appreciate the help so far. You have more faith in my fine motor skills than me lol. I'll have to look up the procedure on this watch. Looks like it has a screw in back.

If you are gentle and have reasonably steady hands you will be fine. Choose a clean spot on your desk, dust is your enemy :)

Yes, the caseback screws in. The easiest way to screw her open is by using a small rubber ball. Press it on and turn anticlockwise. The friction is usually enough to get it open.

If you don't have a rubber ball you can make a makeshift one from sticky duct tape. Same effect.

Well done. I am not a 100% sure of what I see here (see circled area):

Ah ok now I see, thank you. I am afraid that's how far we get at this point unless someone else comes up with an idea.

I would recommend that you find a watchmaker in your vicinity and try find a solution with puretime, a discount on your next watch or whatever.

Make sure that the rubber sealing ring sits correctly in its place while screwing the caseback back on.

So sorry mate.

thanks so much- too bad it's CNY lol..If anyone else has any ideas- I've just loosely screwed the back on and can get in there again. The nearest town is Vegas- but I'm way out in the boonies.

I had this with a watch i received. If you give the balance wheel (the gold coloured wheel in your pic) a nudge carefully with something like a toothpick it may start it working. Try to rotate it a few mm and let it spring back. Mine started up right away and has run sweet ever since.

I did try this - and it moves only about 1 mm one way and does not want to fire up. It looks very fragile in there so I didn't want to force anything. The rotor moves so smoothly and quietly I'm very impressed with that part at least.

Sorry this happened to you. Everything that can be done now is a little more invasive and requires some skill and the proper tools to do at least partial disassembly and fault finding.

Not much hope, but you could try to pull out the crown into time setting position and push it back in, making sure it clicks properly into position.

I have contacted Puretime warranty and will wait for reply- even though this is CNY so it will probably be a while to get resolved.
