New P.4000 automatic movement with micro rotor

Just saw this about a new Panerai in-house movement P.4000. Automatic with small seconds and micro rotor, thin so that they can fit auto movement into thinner cases. First piece with this caliper is 45mm Radiomir 1940 PAM572.

Reminds me of movements that Patek & Chopard have in some of their thin automatics. I can see it for those brands, but isn't part of the appeal of Panerai its bulkiness?

Wow! That's a beautiful movement. The 572 is nice too and perfect size for most people. The 'manlier' version of the 512, which is already perfect for me.

I tried one on yesterday in the Dallas boutique, beautiful watch, perfect size. It is however very light, which always puts me off a little as I prefer a bit of weight.

There was some talk of this back in 2011 but it looks like that project never went anywhere:

Perhaps someone knows more about the subject than me could chime in. Not sure if there has been any more talk of this on the chinese fora, but the last i have seen this mentioned was in 2011. Even had a hard time finding this picture for you guys.

That's a really lovely movement. I doubt we'll ever see it repped though, unless more watches begin using a micro rotor.
