There are no batteries in the Panerai Submersible Elux LAB-ID PAM01800 but its dial lights up with the push of a button.

It’s as simple as flipping a light switch, but when you know that it’s powered by springs instead of batteries, this is bound to make any fan of tool watches and traditional horology a bit giddy. And it’s not so simple. There are a number of noteworthy features here, but let’s get right into the headline act: electric lighting integrated into traditional clockwork. The lights themselves are powered by four mainsprings while another two power the timekeeping just like your standard mechanical watch. All are wound together via the crown, and the movement’s time keeping has a separate power reserve of three days.

Previous than Panerai, only extremely hi end brands like HYT or De Bethune have used this concept to illuminate the Dial.

This is thee fourth iteration of the LAB ID which began in 2017. Prior to this year’s release, there had been three such models, all of which have featured some type of clever take on dial illumination in addition to other world-first technical elements. The original LAB-ID Luminor Carbotech (PAM700) introduced a light-absorbing, carbon ,nanotube-covered dial; the Luminor PAM01700 in 2020 ushered in the optimized Super-LumiNova X1; and the Submersible eLAB-ID in 2022 featured that luminous substance plus a case made almost entirely from recycled titanium.

Honestly speaking, this new PAM01800 can be the most technologically advanced of the four models, but it is pretty ugly IMHO

Due to its 'light' complication i doubt it will be repped, anyway it is still a good tecnical excercise from Panerai .
