Over the past year or so the 590 has become one of my favorite gen Panerai models with the 44mm Bettarini case. It was under serious consideration for a recent gen purchase but ultimately decided on another Panerai as it was in the nicest condition I had seen and a good price.
For me the dial has great proportions, symmetry and balance with the seconds sub dial and 8GB logo opposite of each other. Quite a unique design for the 44mm luminor.
At the time I was in the middle of a couple of other builds with @Belkin12 and asked if he could produce a 590 dial and hands - he initially declined because he prefers not to make dials with sausage indices. However as the gen 590 has the more 'sunken sausage' indices that are far less pronounced than other models so I sent him a few pictures and he agreed to give it a try.
As usual with his work, the results are amazing. One aspect of the gen 590 that I have noticed in my research is that there is variance in the colour of the indices - ranging from a medium cream to light amber colour tones. the goal was to end up somewhere in the middle.
The donor watch will be a Noob 390 that has the correct caseback with the engraved sub, though I won't be bothering to try to match the model / series numbers as it's just not worth it to me. The plan is to see if I like the 590 as much as I think I do before finding a NOS / mint gen example. I believe that (as with the 510 / other P5000 models), the rehaut is slightly taller and case slightly thinner due to the low profile of the P5000 movement as opposed to the 6497.
The donor 390 is currently in the UK, so I won't have it until I visit there in a month or so - I'll update the thread. with progress.
If anyone has any comments or ideas - feedback is always welcome.
