Hi repfam,

I have been looking to get started on my journey with Panerai units and was offered this unit by a seller. As I have no real experience with PAMs, I really need some help in identifying the model number and possibly, the factory that produced it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I am sure, KOT1917 can help you with this issue. I am no expert, but for me this one does not look like a regular Panerai model. The 1313 has a steel backplate and white indexes/numbers and hands. The 1058 looks quite similar but has a blue small second hand and a steel bracelet. And the movement is of course completely different from the one on your pictures.

If you interested in blue Pams I can only recommend to take look at this wonderful article from KOT1917 ...

Well it’s not VSF! Based on the strap, crown guard, DW, caseback, case screws I would speculate it’s a USD 290 aliexpress piece.
If you have not purchased this yet I suggest you pass on it and find another is the m2m section.

JayBee0815 you're right the 1313 would have a solid back plate and not a case display. Let's see what KOT1917 has to say about this piece.
johnlogan well, you're just about on the ball with the price, the seller asks for $330 for her piece. Anyway, I haven't pulled the trigger as I really know zilch about PAMs. Yeah, I am still on the lookout for a 688 or 1313 on m2m but not many popped up so far

Why dont you ask a TD? Both should imo be available with a little waiting time.

I've asked Hont, Li, Eric and they all said no VSF PAMs are available. Only Andrew says that I can place an order online, but I've got to wait. He doesn't know how long it'll take.

Thanks. Thats surprising, because my two contacts (Tony and Joshua) both said, that most VSF-Pams are available, but VSF only delivers every two weeks, so it can take some time. My Post-Raid 1033 arrived yesterday. Nevertheless I can only give you the advise, to try to get a VSF, which is much better than the Rep shown in the pictures.

And btw - I dont want to contradict johnlogan who knows much more about Pams then me, but I think 290 USD is way to much. If you search on AEX offers for a comparable Rep you will find them for less than 200 USD. So your offer of 330 USD is imo much too high. Just my 2 cents ;-)

Thanks for the notes and tip!

Li did tell me some weeks back, when VSF supposedly reopened, that the VSF related enquiries literally drove him crazy. I guess on the flip side, they are not too interested to deal with low volume units while having to work just as hard. By the way, I am not familiar with Tony and Joshua, are they Euro based dealers?

By the way, interesting units on AliExpress and you're right, it's just how much money you want to spend. Me personally, I can only wear 42mm units - I have tried putting on 44mm units on my wrist and they're simply too big in my mind. I know some folks don't mind the oversized effect but I like to keep things inside the 'fence'.

The VSF 688 sells for $368 on Trusty and other similar units go for that price. I will buzz Andrew again and see if he can 'commit'.

Hello!

Thank you for marking me and thank you for your trust.
Of course, I was already late with my comment, and everything has already been said above.

There is no Panerai model with such a set of elements. This is fantasy.

As JayBee0815 already mentioned, it looks like some of the pams models, but just looking at the profile of the old 1950 44mm luminor under p.9000, none of them can even be copied like this.

Regarding the execution itself, this is a typical Ali (there, a branded version may cost a little more), or dhgate version. Not expensive st2555 without decoration, but with a proprietary rotor, standard DW for this movt., And of course, not quite a proportional case.
This is a common type, they make them with any dial, up to bright green. They should cost $ 150, well, maybe 200 in a hungry year.

Of course, for $ 300 + no one would advise you to buy it, but it is better to spend some m2m time, and if it fits your budget, take something better. The difference, perhaps not visible in the picture, to someone who doesn't look at the panerai often, and does not represent the appearance of the gen, copied model, but between this and the typical PAM1313 VSF, there is a chasm in all respects except price.

And even if the budget does not allow VSF, such a copy as this one, I would prefer for $ 100-150 M2M, which is its +/- objective price.

Pricing aside, I must admit that I am only beginning my journey in the world of Panerais, gen or rep. Certainly, I was attracted to the brighter dials of the brand, and as you can gather by now, I find their blue dials mesmerizing. The Luna Rossa series is absolutely a target of mine and I hope one day I would be able to get one.

they make them with any dial, up to bright green. They should cost $ 150, well, maybe 200 in a hungry year

As you said, this being a fantasy piece, the default practice would simply be throwing in parts that they can find and the result is one such watch that I bumped into.

between this and the typical PAM1313 VSF, there is a chasm in all respects except price

I think this would be the kicker that I didn't think of, again now knowing the subtleties and nuances of Panerais in general, but I am sure I will get better in the future.

Looks like my illness is about to get worse, not better.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question :D

They’ll come up. Especially if your flexible. Yes you will have to wait but in the grand scheme of things it won’t be long.

The wait might be 30 or 40 days let’s say. I know it sucks but if you’re looking for 1 good replica to enjoy for years, the wait it worth it for a vsf over a DH Gate special. In my opinion.

Or as suggested, check out the M2M section. Unless you need something right away. Or unless the ~$500 a vsf will likely cost is out of your budget.

Thanks, mate, appreciate your thoughts. I actually don't mind getting a unit m2m but seeing a 42mm unit in m2m is pretty much far between. I remember a 688 popping up a couple of months ago but at that time, I wasn't so interested in Panerais yet. Having said that, it was the one unit that piqued my interest and probably the catalyst to me looking for one today. For the last 2 weeks I've been pretty much monitoring the m2m sales a bit more, I guess just the fun of hunting. If I don't find one in the next 2-3 weeks then yes, I will go the TD route.
