Hey Guys,

I want to build my own watch from the ground up. Not any particular replica model, just as a project, probably a generic automatic.
I've been perusing the "parts" thread and looking through the tutorials which deal mostly with mods. I did not see one re: building a whole watch, maybe I missed it?
Is there any recommended books or references/resources to get me started? I'm fairly adept with mechanical work and I'm not looking to create a masterpiece, just a nice watch that I've created on my own.
Any shared experience would be most appreciated!!

Pick a movement. Either a 2836/2824 style, or a 6497 handwound. The go to ebay and have a look at the case sets available. There's also lots of dial and hand options as well. It really is pretty simple these days to build a watch from scratch. Providing you can of course find options that you like.

The basics of assembly can be gleaned from a lot of the threads. As well as a list of basic tools.

But really, in a case like this, it's as simple as install dial on movement, install hands on top, drop into case, install crown, screw down retaining tabs and put on the case back. And you're done.

Thanks guys,
I really appreciate the help. Been researching and found that Time Zone offers an online course. Looks a bit expensive; but, it would be very interesting to develop the proficiency to fix, build, troubleshoot watches.
Here's the link if you are interested as well.
