This is my first post, so go easy on me.

So, by way of introduction, I'm a hardcore vintage Gruen enthusiast who focuses on 1920's models. I've never paid much attention to Panerais, and generally never thought I'd ever go for any oversized watch, as I generally wear small 1920's tanks. But since learning more about vintage Radiomirs, I'm hooked.

Now I'm determined to put together a nice 3646 replica. My skill level is minimal to moderate, basically anything that doesn't require disassembling plates. I'm okay with swapping hands, dials, case work, and working on setting parts.

In my short time of looking for parts/components, I've realized that there's a bewildering array of suppliers. I'm hoping some of the more experienced can help me find the right suppliers for what I'm seeking. So if you can identify a supplier for any of the following, I will be in your debt:

Case - the most accurate 3646 case available, no Kampfschwimmer engravings, no display backs, no removable lugs. I would like the type that has an Oyster-style movement ring rather than a back that screws into the center section itself. The one spec I would like to compromise on is the spring bars within welded lugs rather than true wire lugs. I just don't like the modern-style Panerai Radiomir lugs that come out altogether. I'd like the case to be compatible with a plexiglas crystal, even if not stock.

Dial and Hands- 3-6-9-12 sandwich dial, stick hands (gold or blue) with tan to orange lume, if aged is available, so much the better.
Crown- some type of Rolex crown, Brevete or other suitable crown.

Okay, that's quite a wide-ranging inquiry, and I apologize for debuting with a possible insurmountable request, but any help is appreciated.
John

Agree !
River offer the most correct case set (also reasonable price) for 3646 case set , dial set , hand sets .
If you want it to be daily beats , use a 6497 movement .
You can make it good after some mods if you can , and even more closer to gen with 3 pcs dial and tall cannon pin set .

Here're some pics with his parts . And I modified it to make it looks vintage .

Of course !
I took some pics about my 3646 type C , which is with tall bezel , modified low plexi , aged type C dial , burned red numbers , self made blue steel hands and aged relume , Swiss 6497-1 movement , and with the vintage strap from my man Ray in HK !

There're some points can tell why I suggest you source the case from River .
1. The case structure is correct , screw luck bezel & case back , case body is between the bezel & CB .
2. Correct case back with no see through , RLX engraved and 3646 on the inside of case back .
3. Lugs , crown tube are already good welding . And already including lug bars .

From your post , I think Type C should be the one you want to find , and you can check mine as a sample !
Go for it !!

Thanks guys. I guess I won't be assembling anything after all. River had some complete watches listed, and if still available, I'll just buy one. I was planning to assemble my own because I wasn't seeing what I wanted anywhere. It appears that River already has exactly what I want. It baffles me how good the price is, but I won't complain. It's kind of funny how much closer his case is to the original than the "real" Panerai reissues.

Again, thanks. I'm really glad I signed up. As I said, I'm mainly a Gruen aficionado, which is probably the one company that has a closer relationship with Rolex than Panerai. I'm absolutely psychotic about the details of my Gruens. For giggles, I'll share some pics of the finer examples of what I've owned in the Gruen department:
My favorite watch, a green and white Gruen-Weber Quadron with the rare gilded and engraved movement-

My only permanent watch, which I wore at my wedding and will pass down to my daughter's groom when the time comes:

I only wish there were replicas of the great Gruens. Alas, there are not. So I'm really enjoying the vintage Panerai watches.

Got my 3646 from River yesterday. First off, he's great to deal with. It couldn't have been easier and he even included a few extras.

I was pretty concerned about the size, and worried that I wouldn't dig it. Well, I am definitely digging it. But it's definitely going to take some getting used to, going from this...

I'm sort of going from one extreme to the other.

So, I've long decried the big watches, but I'm on board now. I just had to find one with some history to fit my vintage preference. My small dress watches will still get the majority of wrist time, and by necessity at work - this is too big and utilitarian looking to wear with a suit - but it's nice to have something with a completely different look, as well as a watch that isn't in constant need of service. Of my roughly 10 vintage Gruens, I never have more than a few in workign condition. They're constantly making the rounds to watchmakers, and costing me plenty of money for upkeep. It's nice to know that my 3646's movement can be replaced for far less than I pay for a COA.

And most importantly, my wife loves it.
