Need help PAM 285 & Good morning....

Morning all amazing Panerai addicts,

I would really love to gather some information about the PAM 285 KW/V6
I have only been able to find very limited info about this beast and since i´m new to
this wonderful fountain of information RWI.
I really appreciate some knowledge from you guys about the 285. I have already two
great pieces, a 243 Hfac v2 and the 571 KW both great pieces, but quite similar look.
Both bought after the wonderful reading in the Pam Section and the guide.
Talk about useful information and some fun reading from you all and having ALE is
something really precious.

I have one and it's crazy huge. Really a tall beast of metal. I wondered why the crystal clarity was so great and I found it has double AR coating. I found faint hairline scratches on the outside of the crystal through a loupe. The watch is built like a tank. Very solid and the bezel is tight. Perfect model to use if you have a genuine 194 dial.

I have started the review of this rep but it is not yet finished

As far as I can see it is one of the best Sub

Dial is almost perfect with accurate inscriptions, perfect layout, accurate markers and recessed subdial. Really nice
Caseback is very accurate, just some differences in the fonts of production number
Hands and CP are nice and accurate. maybe a bit bigger CP but few noticeable perfectly polished, flattened and very gen-like
Bezel and case are accurate enough with fantastic finish

The only evident flaws that I can see at this moment:

Pearl - It is the same as in PAM 364, there are some differences betweenrep and gen pearl. I havestudied both triangles by a Photoshoparrangement and I can say that both triangles seem equilateral and have thesame dimension, but gen triangle has the sides a bit curved outwards and theupper surface is not flat but a little embossed with a shape falling to thesides and to the pearl contour.
Gen pearl is a bit recessed and this effect isenhanced due to the embossed shape of the triangle.
Rep triangle sides are completely straight,upper surface is flat and pearl is placed flush with this surface. Besides forsome reason (maybe due to the straight sides) the rep pearl is placed a bitdisplaced to the upper side. All things together give to rep triangle theappearance of being isosceles, but it really is equilateral.

Lugs - Rep lugs have different shape than gen. Rep lugs are really pointy whereas gen lugs have a clear eagle beak shape with more rounded upper curve

We can say that rep would be in the same or even superior to PAM 364, since the CP is better in PAM 385

Most likely a new PAM Sub Super rep pending final review and evaluation

Looking forward to more info about this piece. What i´m most concerned about is the pearl, a modd maybe.
Did read on the forum where someone compared it to a pudding, maybe a little bit right.

But it looks like a solid piece and for sure worth buying, the price is fair.
Will wait for Ale´s review.

( All of a sudden i´m speaking tongues i had no idea about - Modding, Canon pin and Crown guard - I´m learning thanks to this great forum )

I think it is worth. PAM 285 looks very good.
Consider also the PAM 364 from KW (with corrected CP), PAM 571 and PAM 569 KW
But if you like the PAM 187 bezel the way is PAM 285, of course

One thing I noticed it had double AR. I got fine swirls on the outer AR. May strip the top layer since the gen is single inside only. Another thing is it's not all titanium. Mine has a steel crown guard body with ti lever. The crown guard body is clearly lighter in color and the lever stands out darker against it. The bezel is SS too and lighter in shine than the ti case.

Gen has only the case and back made of Titanium, bezel and CG are made of brushed SS

PAM 285 is BETTER but not WAY BETTER, mainly due to NON-recessed subdials of PAM 187 reps
