Depends on how good you want the finish to be. If you just polish it you end up with polished scratches, much less visible, but still there.
If you have a female around the house, see if you can pinch one of those multi surfaced nail boards with the foam core. Start with the roughest surface and use it until you have an absolutely even finish - it does take time. Then progress through to the smoothest surface, not changing until none of the previous finish marks are visible, don't expect it to be a 5 minute job (I use 6 separate grades of abrasive paper going from 240 grit right down to 9 micron).
Then you have something that can take a final mirror polish with a Cape Cod or whatever you prefer.
A jeweller would usually just use cutting compound on a hard mop, which removes the scratches quickly but destroys the fine edges of the case.

i am not sure about the ferrari panny, but most of these watches are NOT chromed. the metal is just polished (which is really a series of scratches anyway) to be as shiny as it is. I have actually brushed the finish of a crown guard with 3M scrubby pad, and then brought the finish back to life using like a 1500 or 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper.

my opinion, if you don't have a cape code handy, go to any jewelry store and get a jewelry polishing cloth, usually they are two layers, the inner has jewelers rouge on it for a light abrasiveness and the outter is just a flannel polishing cloth. use the inside first then follow up with the outter.

honestly, leave the scratches, do you honestly think you will never scratch your watch? i used to cry when i got a scratch on any of my watches. now, as soon as i recieve them i MAKE SURE i put at least one scratch on the watch so it loses its virginity. makes me feel better that way.

Why the bump? You've already got your answers. Your watch is not chrome, it's polished SS, so no worries about the finish wearing off with a polishing.

Use a cape cod cloth or a jewelry polishing cloth.

Now, hop to it.
