Hi Guys,
I managed to pick up a vintage Rolex pocket watch movement at last so my dream of having a vintage Panerai style watch with Rolex movement is at least taking it's first step.
Here's a picture of the movement,

Now, I know a few of you have similar projects so any help or advice is appreciated, any ideas what case is best to get?
Many thanks,

Peter

Not to sound like an a$$ hole, but have you searched through the forum?

There are several posts on the subject.

Both the RXW/Davidsen 6152 case is a popular choice, as is the 3646. Both are different watches. Which one do you prefer?

If it was me and I had only one movement, I'd go with a Davidsen/RXW 6152 case. IMHO, the 6152 IS Panerai. its the watch that the crown guard was developed for.

I love the 3646, but there are many watches out there that used a similar styled cushion case. What makes the 3646 cool is that depending on the strap used, it can look equally good with a 3-piece suit as with a bathing suit.

Factoid: the 3646 is the first watch which used the California dial.

Ideally, source another movement so you can build a 3646 and a 6152. And while you're at it, source an Angelus 240 ;)

Many thanks for your response, of course I did search the forum but it was a little difficult to get the precise information I require.

I guess I should have been a little more specific with my original post.
I prefer the 3646 style I guess but if someone with experience of a similar project were to suggest that a 6152/6152-1 case would work better with this particular movement then I’d have no problem changing.

Ideally I’d like the specs as follows;

3646 case
3.6.9 or California dial not sure yet
Brevet crown
Display back preferably ‘sterile’

The thinking being that in the above configuration no copyright infringements have taken place?

hmm, the movement pictured is too big for any project using REP Panerai cases. You need a 600 series calibre, not a 500 series calibre movement.

That one is marked 590 and note how far the balance wheel is set in from the side of the movement. I bet that is what 41-42mm? maximum diameter? Anyway there aren't any cases to fit it. Not unless you have a machine shop and a lot of patience.

Would that fit one of the new 47mm Radiomir vintage cases?

no, the MOVEMENT size and case size are not related. 47mm is merely the width of the case. The diameter of the case insides is a whole other property of measurements. As well as diameter there are aspects of height and the way the movement lines up in relation. This movement is too big to even get near a case, it's used in 50mm and larger Pocket Watch cases.

That's why you are our vintage mod resource thank you for bringing your knowledge to us Enzo.

The movement measures 39mm max. diameter, I'll try to compare it to ETA 6497 later today.
