Hi Guys

Need your professional advice.
I recently bought a pam 253 flyback and the movement stop working after few weeks. This is an old watch and the member who I bought it from did not know what mouvmemt it is. My watchsmith said that it's a Gen Eta 7750 and needs service in order to work well. The service will cost around 350$us. I like to know if it's by your opinions Gen Eta and can I switch it to clone eta that sells in eBay for around 150$. Will it be a an easy replacement? I sow that the eta is sold without the pushers of the chronograph, will it fit.

Really appreciate your advice

Thank you
D

$350 US? :O - I think you've been quoted the "don't be bringing them reps around here" price... :) :).

Back to your movement... Judging by the pics, you indeed have a 7750, but whether it is an undecorated ETA Valjoux, or A7750 is up to the technical savvy members out there. Your technician probably already gave you what you need on that one, though. What I will say, I swopped an A7750 for a pre-ETA Valjoux 7750 a few years back. At first I was super excited, since the crown stem, pushers etc. all seated exactly where they needed to be, but the trouble came when it got to the finer details. One of the challenges presented itself in the rep hands and how they seat on the hub of a the Gen movement, which forced me to buy Gen ones off E-Bay at top dollar. Based on my experience, and what I've read in the forums, there will likely be diameter differences between pre-ETA Valjoux and newer versions, A7750 and pre-ETA Valjoux, different factories etc. This is were you would likely need specialized equipment, skills and access to spare parts and advice... e.g. a trusted watch smith :).

On a side note, I love this article on the Valjoux https://www.timezone.com/2002/09/16/the-valjoux-7750-chronograph-part-1/ , technical details and deep dive diagrams that describe these movements down to the last screw. I'd also recommend you search for "movements" in the Forums, there is a sticky topic with tons of info for you to read up on. Good luck with your decision ;).

Hack the watch and check the balance wheel

ETA 7750s have 3 spokes

A7750s have 4 spokes

Also ETA 7750s and A7750 have different pinion sizes , so the hands will not swap ...
