Guys

I bid on a guitar and won it last weekend. In the listing the seller said collection was preffered. I took this into account when bidding as shipping a large and delicate item was £40 which is fair, but more than I wanted to pay.

Anyway. I won the item and wanted to pay by the only listed payment which was paypal. I wanted the extra protection as there are a few fake version of the guitar floating about. I also wanted to put this on my credit card via paypal and pay it off over a couple of months.

When I won I emailed the seller asking if I could collect it in a couple of weeks time and I would pay via paypal but could he send me another invoice without the postage as paypal keeps trying to slap it on.

He replied saying if I was to collect it had to be cash on collection to avoid PP fees.

Either that or I had to pay the £40 for delivery. This was just a bit strange to me especially as he could have the money instantly via paypal.

I have refused to pay but don't think I am being unreasonable. I followed what the listing offered. Preffered collection and only payment listed was paypal. Am I being unreasonable? Reading ebay rules say I should actually report the seller.

I was thinking we should be chalk this one up to experience. If I get a negative feedback then fine, but don't want a non-payment mark on my account.

Have been ebaying a few years now so not a noob or scammer.

Your advice is welcomed...

Maybe I am being an asshat...

Well I'm going to the pub now. Might check later to see if I have been flamed yet.

Please don't ban me :(

Oh dear mate. I guess the seller assumes collection, you would take cash with you, but seeing as you want the guitar, and pay for it via your credit card via paypal so you can spread the payment over a couple of month, I would tell the seller exactly this mate.

Just tell what you planned on doing with regards your paypal payment reason. If the seller is sensible, they will accept paypal.

Thanks - I did say this. I was told it is cash on collection or pay delivery.

There was no mention of cash on collection in the auction. Which is then changing payment terms and against the rules.

Well in that case then you are in the right to refuse as Paypal was the only payment method listed. Got a link to the listing?
