So I bought a 372 superclone pretty much right when they came out with the superclone movement back in the day. If you recall the early superclone movements had brushed movement plates where the brushing was not perfectly aligned. Loved the watch and put it on a JV.
Well the main spring on that watch sprung :-(. So I just bought another one M2M and I'm surprised how different it is. My original movement had black lettering on it (OP Cal P3000) in a small font and this new one the font is thinner but bigger letters and blue text. Both engraved and filled.
The old watch has a crystal that is flatter in the front and looks much thicker from the side. The new crystal is rounder and thinner at the edge.
The old dial had thinner LUMINOR PANERAI lettering, thicker on the new dial.
The cases are identical and the dial cutouts are too.
The new version seems different but I've never held a gen so I'm wondering which one is closer to gen. Obviously the old movement is shot, but I have the opportunity to swap the new movement into my old watch. Or just keep the new one as is.
The biggest difference is the crystal. Taller and flatter vs. shorter and more curved.
Oh well...
