Hay guys,

I am going to grab a Bentley 30's rep:

RIMG01222533536125.jpg

for my uncle and he would like to know what are some of the flaws.

I'm not a big Breitling guy so I don't know all the ins and outs, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Remember Novesh, that information is a double edged sword... and sometimes ignorance is bliss...
Now, let me ask you this: once your uncle knows the flaws, will he do anything about it? like fixing it up, etc.

If not, then might as well not tell him what the specific flaws are, since it will lessen his confidence in wearing it ;)

he cares less about the flaws, he has a customer with one of these, probably an earlier model. He just wants to know if that guys is a rep or not...

Thanks

the main giveaway is that on the gen the seconds counter is in the 3 o clock subdial.in the rep its the 9 o clock subdial.

and as most breitling reps the other thing would be the recessed date..

Hey Novesh,
datefont is not correct, should be black.
looks like a mixture out of "Bentley Motors" and "Bentley Motors T" : The dial is imitating the "T" version, the bezel, however, is from "Bentley Motors".
The running sec should be on 3, but all Indexes are plain wrong.
I believe this rep not AR coated, which will be pretty spot on.
Cheers

I've had a few of the big bent's and sold or traded them Novesh. It's a really nice watch, but some serious bling - it gets more attention then even a pam.

IMO, the flaws are:

Overall, the watch looks good, but it lacks the crispness of the gen. The engravings on the clasp are dull, the bracelet itself is super shiny and almost has a fake sheen to it.

The date wheel is too recessed and the font is a tad off. The gen is much more flush and crisp.

The 'crystal' from the side had a bit of a magnifying effect. It also lacks the real vivid clarity of the gen in the sunlight.

The hour markers and bezel appear softer too and dont have the solid cut from steel look to them. My bezel fell off and I had to poxy it back in.

The arrow on the sliderule function is also a tad off in terms of color and shape.

It's also very windy - not sure what movement you are looking for, but the 7750 in both of mine were really loud.

Overall, despite all of this, it's one of my favorite watches and actually a gen I'd think of buying. I'm all for wearing what watch you want in any situation, but this is a monster of a watch and total bling - it got questioned more then any rollie or panerai I have. It best suits a bigger person with a bigger wrist imo. It looks much less bling on a leather strap. Ruby's is nice and TWP can get them at a really good price too.

Here is a pic - I wore it to my office often.

What do you mean DRM? Haven't you ever been to SwiLserland. ;)

I guess I'd add - if your uncle's buddy has the gen - side by side, the rep is noticable in .001 of a second.

loll, thanks for the input guys.

I will pass this along to him.

He used to be a watchsmith in russia for more years than I can remember, he knows his stuff, though he mostly worked on very large clocks.

We'll see what he says, I don't think he cares if its dead on or not, he just wants to bling it around hahahaha

Lack of AR, recessed date, wrong font, the fact that the chrono goes around in 30seconds on the genuine as opposed to the standard 60 seconds on a 7750 is another tell tell sign. It is a very good rep though, and if you get the crystal AR'd you will have a very very good rep, even without it's a very accurate rep.

It's not as big, but the GT model is more accurate and has the same bling appeal.

See i gotta say that i have had my 30's Bentley for a while and always wear it out. I have had it next to many gens and have even had gen owners say "its nice to see a real one everyone seems to have a fake." The fact of the matter is that allot of owners of this watch in particular dont know much about it. They know they have a big breitling watch that says Bentley on it. I had a guy stare at his and mine for like 2 minutes and still said mine was a nice one and wish he got the black dial. If you are a normal guy and don't know these falts that the reps have you will never notice. Even the seconds at 3 thing is not a huge deal because few people honestly look at that and even know the gen is at 3 even though it is a giveaway. We here are all so particular and know these things inside and out and the average gen owner barely knows how to spell its watchs name.
