Hi all!

My first post, so please be gentle with me.

I too did not appreciate what all the fuss is about but during the past few days, I have spent hours on here bamboozled as to which watch I would like.

I have emailed Davidsen several times but do not wish to badger him so I thought about coming in here and asking my "Panny-Newb" questions.

My desire would be to own either a SS or TI Panerai, with a black dial face, preferably with an open case-back and a nice black strap, preferably with black stitching, rather than the usual white.

Could anyone help me narrow down my search for my ultimate Panny please?

I have searched many times but seem to be going in circles :D :D :D

TIA

IMHO, one of the best DSN offer is the 176 with Ti case or 210 with SS case.... again .... Both have black Dial, Ti and SS case (your choice) , open case back with swiss 6497-1 + swanneck regulator and daggar.... See DSN offer again before making decision... You can also ask DSN for black strap, I'm sure if he has it he will prepare it for you.. My advise is to find your dream strap later after getting the watch... :D :D Again, I just try to help, you may not like both models I recommend (my personal preference)... Just for your info only hi hi hi :p :p

Hello rozel and welcome.

This is what I have worked out regarding PAMS.

All dealers sell PAMS.
Two popular sizes: 44mm and 47mm.
Choice between an Asian copy or Swiss movement in either Automatic or manual wind.
One of the more popular models is the 111H(Stainless) and the 177H(Ti) both 44mm, they're the same, just one is polished Stainless, the other Titanium.
Whether you get a Saphire Crystal or not depends on price.
All have minor errors but the Davidsen comes with the mods already done, such as Cannon Pin fix(the pin the hands sit on isn't recessed)
Regarding the strap. Ditch the strap that comes on the watch and replace with one purchased from a dealer on this Forum.

All the information is available on the boards but it does take some reading to distil all the info into something useable.

Hope this gets you off the a good start!

git yerself a nice 177 or 111...or both, from the prince. (if youre in the us) when you decide you like it...send it out to be modded. superlume, cannon pin etc. if you don't like it sell it and try another. arktos,radiomir,gmt...whatever.
as far as straps....the vast majority of rep straps suck. so find what you want at tc, waccax, the bay etc.

don't over think it. get something in the $200.00 range on your wrist and see if you like it.:)

I have always goes with Davidsen .. just because its great out of the box.. which one ???? do you like TI or SS and or radiomir or luminor or etc? not sure yet.. go to AD and compare it.
so you have an idea which one you will like and not wasting money buying this pam or that pam?

Davidsend is no mod needed out of the box. Prince, Thumb can also do the samething now. Each one of them has its own flaw. and it comes to how picky are you? :)

I know i am not helping. personal opinion: older davidsen dial is I think look good. I bought all mine from davidsen -- see comparison between his old and new and my gen, Compare it to TWP and Thumb (those 2 are great guy to deal with and specially if you are in US less custom worry) I also think that Prince pam113 with thick crown guard is just perfect - relume it, cannnon fix (if there is) and you are set.

If you can rock the bigger watches, go with a 127... It really is a stunner of a watch, plus when you get really really drunk, you can still see what time it is!

I would recommend the 177 (my fave Pam) same as 111 but Ti. I have a modded one in the works, it's a great choice!

Hi everyone

I am indebted to you all for your helpful replies.

After taking your advice and researching some more I am going for a Swiss Movement Panny 253, assuming I can lay my hands on one.

Does this 44mm watch take the 24mm strap?

Thanks again

yep 24mm. Swiss movement on this watch will be expensive :)

Also correct me if I am wrong, but the Swiss version is less accurate in looks that Asian 28.8K beat version.

Thanks - my heart has always said Swiss - would I be correct also in saying that the Swiss movement, assuming I could find one, beats more slowly at 21,600 bps ?

If it beats tha same as the Asian otoh, then I will pursue my search for a Swiss movement Panny 253.

If such a thing exists could anyone point me in the right direction towards a supplier. I have lost count on the number of emails I've written to Davidsen, Josh and Andrew - these latter 2 suppliers, saying that it is currently not made and are both pointing me to the Asian movement watch.

I would welcome anyones views please

I think you will find that if Josh and Andrew say it's not currently made in Swiss then it isn't.

If it was, they would sell it.

If you want a PAM Chrono with Swiss have a look at the 196.

Not cheap but nice!!!

It's the 7750 movement - Swiss versions of any watches that contain this movement is at least over 500 dollars from our dealers. I think I have seen the Swiss version of 253, (or was it 212 hmm... I am getting confused). Asian 7750 without the second running at 6 should be a pretty reliable movement - although, I still refuse to buy any watch with this movement...

I think Joshua used to have it on his site, (Davidsen would not have this watch) but if he doesn't, try a few others. I do not think the Swiss movement is worth it though, it just becomes too expensive.

If you're going for an Asian version, try TWP. He carries 253 and he ships from U.S.

I would not recomended pam 253 since the dial is the dead give away.... subdial its way too big on any version of the reps. I have mine and compare it to my friend.
Have you look at daylight chrono like pam 251 (flaws is very minimal not too obvious) and just need relume.

Lol! The list of Panerai Watches seems endless. But I have looked at the Daylight following your suggestion and fell in love with the Panda version immediately!

I have ordered the SS 7753 Swiss model from Joshua together with a nice custom black strap from Mario Paci Straps.

I am grateful for everyone's input.

Could I ask what mods I should consider and where to have them carried out? - I live in the UK.

I cannot wait to wear this beauty!

A relume from Finepics is your first step (he's in the UK and can be found over on RWG), perhaps a crown from PAM/Palpatine.

That's a lot of $$$ between the watch and strap, enjoy it!

Glad you like it.. daylight is a good looking pam. I am sure you will enjoy it, once it arrived of course :)
relume as Hooligan says.. and finepics is the guy to go if you are in UK.

Best regards,
Dan

Ok I hear what you say and Reluming seems to be the first step. Finepics seems to be absent at the moment - do you know anyone else in the UK who undertakes this process please ?

Also could you please advise in order of priority what other mods I should consider in order of importance - some help as to why the mod is recommended would also be helpful. I have searched so much this past week on here and in the last 48 hours I am finding little out about my ordered watch, the Panda Daylight.

Thanks
