Thanks to (member X) for questioning why we don't have a Tudor section.
As many of us Tudor freaks as there is I am stupfied we didn't think to ask sooner and thanks to R2 for busting this sub section out in about a MS.
In my quest for the end result I now have with my Snowflake here are a few insights to help those about to embark themselves.
Dials *** black dials also from all the vendors mentioned below
I have found 2, yes TWO blue versions of The Snowflake....somewhere in here the 70xx has a blue as well. The most commonly frankened Snowflake, which I think is because of the relative ease of dials and inserts is the Yuki, mahand1 dial...both 9411 and 9401 both in white and yellow'ish lumed markers.
It is my observation that the later 94010 and 94110 (?) have this bright blue dial. Mid 80's to 90's I guess. I think this is based on what I have read in my research about a large run of dials having serious issues with markers flaking off, paint flaking off and print font fading rapidly thus WARRANTY influxnad these as far as I can tell use a ETA2824 calibre...
(Experts please correct me if I am wrong, which I prolly am )
My first Snowflake configuration v1
mahand1 dial, Clark insert (faded with bleach)
2 Clark inserts, one stock and one bleach fauxtina'd
mahand1 eBay seller dial (same as Yuki we think)
The earlier Snowflakes early 70's to X are what I (and *woof I think) refer to The Military blue. These appear to be that darker gun metal blue that is so prefered IMO. It was Shannon's Flake that got me all wet wanting to homage the look of his Snowflake. Shannon post a pic of your flake son
The biggest hurdle for me is/was lack of proper coloured dial. That is until hanging around over at Homage Forum and civic posting up about an Asian dial guy PVirus and posting pics of his dial. Once I saw that dial I HAD TO HAVE ONE. *woof threw me a bone about the Classic Watch Parts aka Michael Young Tudor Military insert being THAT gun metal colour...
**Good news for those not afraid to drop coin, ND Trading now has 3 Military Blue dials....Rdx has one in his newly acquired acquisition.
Military Blue
Military Colour 9411 **source unknown (shandriod maybe or his brother in his sig :rofl
*woof
*woof
My Snowflake today 08/24/2103
The Yuki Blue
*woof's I think, see we have the same watch AND the same patio table..I swear too funny.
*note
The first Bonesey's build pics. He was the one that really REALLY lit me up with a heroin like jones for one of the Flakes
So, depending on your budget and end result as I like to call it there are more options than ever today :woot:.
Movements
The early 9411 uses an ETA 2784 28,800 (2783's are 21,600) NON HACKING movement in nickel finish (sometimes swirl decorated and an engraved bridge, sometimes not also). This is because the 2784 is a DATE calibre.
The early 9401 uses the ETA2776 28,800 (not sure if there is a 2775 but some are 21,600) NON HACKING movement in nickel (sometimes swirl decorated and engraved bridge, sometimes not also).
Same movement sans the DATE mechanism and wheel. I have a 2784 in my 9401 and jmb the builder removed it's date complication and POOF....2776 that is marked 2784 LOL.
*note
If you comb eBay like I did you can find many off brand Swiss watches with ETA engines and many with either the 2776 or 2784 and grab one. My off brand watch had a nickle 2784 $40 plus shipping it was 28,000. I aslo bought a Sandoz and it had a brass plated 2783 and it was 21,600. I didn't know at the time if either ETA was going to be nickel or not.
The later 9411's and 94010 and 70xx use a ETA2824 I do believe.
Pearl
Otto Frei or Jules Borel Illuminous Dot (plexi we call it) Acrylic pearl UNLUMED
*note
The dial feet for 2700 dials and holes in 2700 movements are different diameter than 2800's. Okay, so when you read Yuki saying GENUINE dial feet position remember this note.
*note
Yuki also sells the basic Tudor engraved rotor however, I have seem multiple engravings on multiple year Snowflakes as well.
*note
A common issue with several hand vendors is a second hand that it TOO LONG or too short. I was not privy to what vendor supplied my handset only that he no longer has these.
*note
As woof can asstest..the Yuki and mahand1 dials flake when stressed to mount. Paint chips off the leading edges. If you look close to a members dial sale from time to time you can see the exposed leading edges. This was n ot the case with my PVirus dial. This is also why some of us believe that both Yuki and mahand1 get these dials from the same printer as they are dead on in design, color and flakiness.
Bracelet
The most common bracelet is the Rolex 93150/380B endlink however I have seen plenty of rivit Rolex bracelets used too.
The Cartel base rep we use for these builds comes with this 93150/455 combo.
WSO sells good 380B and Angus @ Puretime sells the 93150/285* (will edit) combo for $50. The endinks on this bracelet are specific to a Sea Dweller so be aware of that.
I have loads of data collected if you need a bone thrown about what is what and goes with what....lemme know.
Caseback
Yuki sells a great one
jmb is the Jedi engraver but is a very busy guy and you will just have to ask and make an appointment to get in his queue more or less.
Enjoy the quest fellas,
