Morning guys,
Today, I want to share with you all about my first franken Pam that I have spent quite a lot of $$$ and time to have it built by our great Pam builder @Grimlocktime . So sit back and enjoy.
After buying a couple decent reps, I was determined to get my first fraken Pam (of course it took me a while to understand what a franken means lol :ambivalence:). Then I learned about our great builder @Grimlocktime , who had the most franken Pam for sale on the M2M. My grail Pam is a watch with a bit more sophisticated, 1950 case, swiss movement, and as gen as possible. So when this sale came up:
https://forum.replica-watch.info/th...rystal-bezel-on-bracelet.371027/#post-3352619
I decided to pull the trigger even though it doesn't have the 1950 case but it has everything else ... (Grim does have a good picture skill with his franken)
I believe this Pam196 already has many gen parts but I ended up adding even more to make it completely ... complete (one and for all :applause:)
- gen dial (of course)
- gen bezel (mint condition, shining!!!)
- gen crystal (first time I've seen - extra special)
And I added:
- brand new ETA 7753 (as per gen OP XII means $$$), I asked Grim to swap the ETA plate with the rep OP XII plate to get the correct look
- gen datewheel
- gen chrono hand
- gen crown guard (as wonderful as it can get, $$) --> one of the problem for this model listed in ALE's guide was the CG so I gotta have it changed :frusty:
- a gen Panerai rubber strap to make it complete
After about 3 months communicating, going back and forth, waiting and waiting ... (I would say the hardest part in this hobby is patience ... a lot of patience actually!!), the watch came back very nicely. Grim buffed/polished the case carefully so the watch is virtually scratch-less. On to the pics:

- Nice gen crystal:

- Gen CG:

IMG_1733.jpg

IMG_1734.jpg

- different angle shot: bezel
IMG_1736.jpg

- Lume:

- Movement with gen datewheel & chrono hand - I think this is the biggest upgrade and the most $$$ invested

I think this end result is quite different with the original sale inside and out. I am very pleased with the watch and the movement is superb in keeping time and chronograph. The gen watch runs around 6,000 to 8,000 online now, some are cheaper but the condition is way worse (especially CG and bezel). I spent about 1/3 of the price for it. I'm not sure if it is worth it but I think it will last many years to come.
I was thinking about buying a gen Pam but the more I wear this watch, the better it gets so I am gonna put that idea on hold ... :bash: (my wife probably appreciates it a lot)
Thanks for reading. Comments are welcome.:gossip:

Looks amazing! Does Panerai do any other adjustments to your standard ETA7753 other than the decorated plates? If not considering dropping one into my 251...

Grimlocktime does some amazing panerai franken pieces! Welcome to the Franken Pamily...lol. As far as the movement, I don't think panerai does much besides cosmetic decorations. As far as subdials, they are standard layout. Not cheap, but if you drop a gen ETA in you should be good for years to decades. No point in buying gen as you've got visually an almost identical one and functionality you've got the Swiss movement so no significant difference. congratulations on a beautiful piece! Not, time to get a selection of bands and bracelets for it!

My next franken is definitely 1950 case with eta 2893-2 @teddy875 does it even exist?
@Bliew I studied the movement online and the only thing I found was the serial number engraved on the 7753. Stock eta 7753 doesn’t have that nice serial number and I think it is the biggest tell if i am to look at the movement. Besides that, everything is identical.

Not a 1950 case, but the requested movement and all the grimlocktime goodness....

Gorgeous. Nice build! One of the most underrated and best PAMs in my opinion (also my first ever rep)

I have a movement supplier that I work with in Europe that offers somewhat kind prices for elabore movements.

By the way, Sorry I missed this thread. This was one of my favorite builds in a while. I had access to all of the period correct parts including the coinage stamped bezel and the CG which are getting pretty though to come by. It all came together flawlessly. Congrats to @reyes_statefarm on an awesome franken. You saved several $K :drinks_cheers:

Thanks Grim. It is getting better each day. I wear it 24/7 minus showering time of course.
Please let me know your other going on projects. This habit is addictive.

Your 196 is really impressive !!! I have just acquired a 196 franken with Swiss ETA 7753 caliber, glass and date disc of Taka, and dial and needles of Davisen ... and seeing your watch makes me want to look for all those pieces to improve it!

Thanks for sharing!!!!

Sorry Tucker, but I'm new to the forum and also my English is not very correct ...

I have read part of the thread of the link that you name about my comment and I still do not understand what relationship it has ...

From my point of view the Franken of the PAM196 of reyes_statefarm seems to me a great job.

I'm probably missing something, or my English is worse than I expected ... anyway, thanks for reading my comment!

A greeting!

No worries partner. The owner of the PAM 196 above got himself in some trouble here on RWI.
