As promised, here are some pictures to seal the deal. I got this watch on Thursday evening. Just out of the box, it's very pleasing to the eye. David at 8artisans did a bang-up job of wrapping securely, and sending quickly.

I got this watch and strap for less than most would be paying for the strap alone. David evidently had some extra stock, and wanted to get rid of them, so I snatched one up, even though I've been a total Rolex/Tag kind of guy. I guess my tastes are changing, because I LOVE this watch.

Pictures don't even come close to catching the gravitas, the presence of this thing.

Pros n Cons:

Pros:

- $70 bucks plush shipping.
- Fairly decent strap, for a rep. Not butter soft, but I have one on the way. Then I'm going to give P4GTR some bucks to was/bleach my strap as a backup.
- Dial is gorgeous.
- I love the domed crystal.
- Movement is nice, crisp and clean
- Second hand spins smoooooooth, no jumps/ticks.

Cons:

- Less expensive movement version (Asian basic 6497, no swan neck dagger on the balance cock.)
- Crown guard lever is floppy, but still clamps down nice and tight.
- Standard rep Lume
- Power reserve is supposed to be ~ 48 hours, but I'm happy if I get 16.
- Blue AR coating

All in all, a great watch for the money I spent on it Extremely happy with how it feels, looks, and wears. The watch was EXACTLY as David at 8artisans represented. If you buy from him, buy with confidence.

Okay, enough talk. On to the pictures. Please excuse my photography skills.

Nice watch wiscrna and it sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Fiddy (PAM 127) was my first rep too, but I got mine in NY on Canal street. It took me awhile of asking around and looking at some very poor Panerai reps before I found mine, so it is decent as the NY fakes go, but has no pedigree the way a 'BK' or 'DSN' or 'Fakeymaster' does. In fact, it is a pretty good watch, I just have never been able to figure out WHAT watch it is. Based on your description it looks almost like you got the same "model" as me and that's why I'm writing this. I thought maybe if yours was the same I could figure out what mine is. I tried trading it once and was asked the usual: who from? What model/make (of rep)? and mods, etc. Since I didn't know any of that no trade was made, but that's okay, I like the watch enough and now I am going to put some money into it for a long term keeper.

The reason I'm commenting is this one thing: If you take a very close look at the small seconds on your new watch, does it look like the diameter of your small seconds dial is just a tad too small? On mine I can tell because when the second hand passes the "holes" at 12, 3, 6, 9, it is obviously longer than the diameter of the second tics and I think it should be either exactly the same length, or a little shorter even. Make any sense? i.e., the length between the 12 and 6 holes is a little shorter the the height of the 9 hour marker and I think should be the other way around.

I am still a relative noob to the rep watch game and when I got this watch I was REALLY a noob. It is still a reasonably good rep with asian 6497 mov't like yours, which is actually not the correct decoration for a gen 127 but I think it looks better with the Geneva striping anyway and it keeps good time. No swan neck. The lume on mine completely sucks - there is NO GLOW at all - so I have a lume kit on the way to relume and a new cannon pinion to fix that issue. My CG is loose but looks good and well fitted when shut, so I will 'flatten the pin' and be done with that.

Since I got it I always wondered what the "pedigree" of my rep 127 was and have never been able to find one like it on the forums because of the small second hand thing and from your pics, it kinda looks like yours might be that way and I've never seen another like that except mine. I am getting ready to change my dial out for a Marina Militare dial that has the larger size small seconds, even though it is a barely noticeable thing, but I have always wondered where my watch stacked with the other known watches on the rep fora.

Hey, great review, i am waiting for the same one from 8A. Do you reckon the strap is decent enough to be worn as it is? Also do you reckon I can wear it out with confidence, what I mean is that it will not scream "fake" to the general public?

Thanks

no one (99% + of the world population) knows pan's its an expensive obscure brand, the only real tell from a distance is the AR. i would never worry about people saying things about your watch. some guy in hong kong called me out on a 50dollar pan and i told him he was both correct and rude. ( he yelled it at me on the kowloon waterfront, that's rude ) i have had my real sub called fake about 10 times... but now im over 30 so i can wear anything.... DON'T SWEAT IT :)

By the general public I mean the people you meet on the street, in the shopping centre, at university/work, that sort of general public.

SlimSlim, thanks for that. I knew the brand wasn't very popular, but if someone does that to me, I would probably just turn around, laugh and say "I hope so" in a way that will discourage him of making any further comments. I can't wait to get this beauty, it is my first rep and I am well excited :D

the color of the numbers is a dead giveaway, the ar, of course if someone asks u to take off the watch the movement is bad BUUUUUT, never take a watch off for anyone so dont have to worry about that
