My new Davidsen 089 arrived. A couple of questions for you

So my new 089 DSN arrived and it is a thing of beauty. I recquested a 24mm titanium buckle with it and Davidsen threw one in for free along with the 22mm (?) that comes with his rep strap. This means I can get a Savage or other strap and have an appropriate titanium buckel for it. Once again Davidsen was a Prince to deal with in every way (this is my third from him). I will post pics in a couple of days. The lume is bloody well blinding--even in the middle of the nigfht. Wow! Meanwhile a couple of dumb questions 1) what the heck's that extra hand for? I've figured out how to set it but don't know why I would. Give me a scenario. 2) this is my first A7750 movement. Do I remember that I am not supposed to set the date unless the hands are at about 6-30? Finally, I notice that the case is lighter in colour than my 056 titanium destro from davidsen. It almost looks like brushed stainless. I'm not the suspicisous kind, but how do I tell titanium from stainless, and is it common to have different colours of titanium?

Once again, thanks to all of you. This latest aquisition, which is drop-dead gorgeous, is thanks to all of you: your answers, reviews, solicitude, and your hopeless biases....... I'm also trying to figure out exactly what strap to buy for it, but will post that question separately, once I get pics. up-and-running.

i too am looking at this beaut after Tak's review. the other hand is the 24 hand for GMT. It is to be used so you can have another timezone reported to you at all times. You will notice that this hand will take 24 hours to complete 1 rev, unlike the 12 hour hand. If you do not care to have another timezone reported, you can have them "sync"ed (i.e. 4pm would be 4 on the 12 hour hand and 16 on the 24 hour hand. The feature I am very interested in is the "jumping" of the 24 hand in 1 hour increments, making it easy to set while traveling. I hope this helps. Please post pics of the 89 maybe next to your other Ti so we can see the color diff.

I was about to answer your questions but pdnb was faster.

Nevertheless, setting the date on this particular watch won't be a problem since it doesn't have the chrono complication (which makes the specific time to set the date). And regarding the veracity of your case material: 1. I'm pretty confident that DSN does supply his 89 with a Ti case (perhaps just a different grade compared to the 56 you already have) 2. But to be sure, Ti cases are quite lighter than SS cases, so you can have an idea based on weight.

Last but not least: WHERE ARE THE PICS????

Cheers!

turbogt-

DSN does indeed claim Ti for the 89, though I won't know till I pick one up. regarding the date, does this mean I will be able to set the date anytime of the day? I thought in mechanicals there was supposed a preferred time in the day (3-9pm???) to set the date to not hurt the movement... but I don't know any real info. can you clarify?

Darron,

The problem of setting the date with the 7750 happens only with their chrono versions (3 registers on the dial). On this particular version, since it only has the GMT complication you won't have any trouble setting the date at any given time.

But since it's asian, I could be wrong too...

Awesome! My only PAM was a DSN a 111H. Great choice on straps there. Reall does make the watch!

I would like to hear from you experts on your thoughts regarding the accuracy to the gen--and again sorry for the mediocre photos, especially the lume shot which doesn't do justice to the blazing face.

I was thinking about a blonde strap, perhaps even a stitchless. Please weigh in on what you think would suit. I like the one I have on it at the moment, but it really belongs on the 056.

Does the crown sit centered along the case, or high? Can you take a profile picture of the crown guard and crown to see the relative position of the crown relative to the center of the case? Point of view similar to your last picture but from a lower angle (straight on and not from above... watch would have to be sitting on the edge of a table or raised so you could put your camera at the same level) so one could see the bottom half of the wheel/crown I thought I remembered reading that DSN's cases have the crown sit higher relative to the GENs but I don't know this to be true.

I'm away from my camera for a few days so won't be able to post photos for a bit, but I'm just peering at the watch at the moment. I don't have a calipre, but I'd say the crown and CG are absolutely bang-on centred--both to each other and to the case. There's as much crown visible below the CG as above, and the CG itself appears to be straight and centred on the case. The CG is perhaps sitting high by 1/2 a millimetre--if that, but that is if I squint and look for trouble. Neither the crown or CG is visibly high on the case. From memory I'd say it is the best of my 3 Davidsens. My 056 Destro needed a bit of skimming on the top of the CG to make it more centred.

That is on DSN's proprietary cases for the handwound PAMs, it doesn't apply to his auto movement watches.

Even now, I understand that DSN has started to transition to "normal" rep cases for some of his handwound models, as well.

My 2 cents, a savage military green stitchless...

Looks great, DSN. Thanks for posting that shot.

Another thread like this one and the one Taka posted and I might have to order a 089.....

Hooligan: you've made me buy 2 Davidsens in the past--time I helped force youuto get one! I'm sitting here looking at my 089. Man, its gorgeous!

Green stitchless Savage. Hmmmm I like that a lot. I like green and it would go very well with the titanium case and anthracite face--and the lume too. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I wold have thought of it.
