Hi!

I recently received this IWC and it really blew me away! It feels very high quality and looks very much like the gen! I rarely get so impressed with a rep like this one..

I ordered a Jacob strap to go with it and had him make the leather thick on top near the holes so the strap would appear closer to the case. I did not like how there is the strap gap on these watches and wanted to correct it without drilling new holes. Upon my request he made me a strap with curved ends and I decided to try to put straight bars through the curved holes so the strap would be even closer to the case and lo and behold - it worked. The strap is now hugging the case and looks awesome - very much so like the newer 5007. The Jacob strap is as always top notch, I love the dark brown shade with some black accents, I feel this watch looks so much better on a brown strap than the standard black, it really brings out the tan silver color of the dial!

I also love how the dial changes colors in different lighting, and how the light reflects off the gold markers. To me this is the best color variation of the 5001 series. It is more on the dressier side and I think this watch was made for it. But that doesn't mean it will not look good on the sporty weekend because it really does!

This watch is a definite keeper (provided that the movement holds up..)

Anyways, enjoy the photos, I tried catching lots of angles!

Here you can clearly see how the strap is hugging the case:

Looks great!

Did you have any trouble fitting the straight spring bars into the curved strap? Also, if curved spring bars were used, what would you guess the difference in the gap to be between the strap end and the watch?

The strap is of course a 22/18. I have an 8" wrist so ordered a XL size 125/80. The strap fits perfectly on my wrist, I think it is pretty centered, here is a photo:

I would say about 2-3mm difference. It didn't go in very easily (as expected) but I carefully pushed it through.

Good to know that a normal regular strap works too with a clasp!

While not necessarily wrong, the clasp was designed in such a way that it should rest in the dead center of your under wrist.

Amazing combo! The strap really adds so much more to the watch.

That is gorgeous! Now you have given me pause and order that dial instead of the black/black.

Indeed I think the dark brown fits the watch way better than the black one, congratulations, plus Jacob is undoubtfully one of the best strap makers on the planet . Personally I'd rather have it padded though, like the gen.

That's how a very good strap has to look like! You can easy spot a "rep" strap or cheap aftermarket strap by the thickness. Good straps aren't thin. I hope my Kaufmann will be also as thick as your Jacobs, I ordered it with 6mm at the lugs. BTW: Jacob is the best strap maker short after Kaufmann - IMHO. I love his work.

Great looking strap.. will be getting a blue one from Jacob as well. How much was padded to make it uniform?

Also, my QC pic the hour 10 looks just like that. It feels so mis-aligned pointing towards upper right. In person, is it actually straight? Might just be my QC pic and most pictures having that illusion that it's slanted?

It's not only about the thickness, gen straps usually are padded, which IMO makes quite a difference.
